'05 F-150 5.4 Towing

i am thinking about starting my own construction business the question i have is, i have a '05 F-150 5.4 3.73 gears, the truck is paid for so i want to keep it for a while, i will be towing around 8 to 9000 LBS daily am i crazy or do you think it will handle and take the abuse Ok

any feed back would be help full good or bad

While that amount of weight is possibly within the capability of your truck thats more than I would want to be pulling around daily. Youre getting into 3/4 ton territory pulling that much weight every day IMO.

yea i agree with what you are saying, the reason i want to do this is i would not have to buy a truck right away a least until i get started a while down the road i would probably replace it with a 250 or 350

Get a set of load range E tires, add a leafs, and a good trailer brake controller. Should be okay to tow that much but def getting up in the 3/4-1 ton range. Also what kind of trailer are you going to be towing? Enclosed, dump trailer, or an open trailer?

it will be a open drop deck aluminum around 2000LBS but i will be putting a skid steer that weights about 5000lbs then with attachments about 500LBS, and i will put on air bags if i do this, already have a good brake controller on it

I would invest in a good transmission cooler if your truck isnt equipped with one as well as a trans temp gauge.

where is a good place to start looking for that stuff and what is the cost of a trans cooler

I tow a camper with mine and I can tell you that it does fine but the 4 speed trans sucks. Would like to have the new 6 spd or a manual. For everyday towing you are certainly looking at 3/4ton range. Make VERY sure yours is equipped with the full towing package including the extra transmission cooler. If it isn't you will burn that baby up quick.

Trans cooler is right up front. Looks like a small secondary radiator with lines to the transmission. If your truck has the heavy hitch in the back it is a good bet you have the cooler but you better make sure.

For a gauge I suggest something like a Scangauge II or something along those lines. It plugs into your OBDII port and allowed you to monitor everything your computer monitors like trans temp, oil temp, coolant temps ect. Its a handy tool
