Default Improving stereo sound quality?

My 2004 Mustang GT came with the Mach 460 sound system and the only thing I've done was install an Alpine head unit. The sound quality is actually really good.

However, it sucks in the F-150. Sound is distorted when any bass is introduced at a decent listening level (and I listen to country), and the Max Volume cap is not very loud when going down the highway with the windows down.

Is there any relatively easy solution for this without changing the console configuration? I'm not looking to pimp this thing out, I just want it to be a little louder, and a little clearer.

Possibly add an amp, and maybe a way to override the max volume?

I would install two Altec-Lansing "Voice Of The Theatre" speakers. You know, the ones with the 15" woofers!

since you have a Scab/ add a sub and sub amp ( with line in ) tap off the back speakers, and let a small under seat sub take the bass.
Amp - Alpine ( under $ 150 )
Sub - under seat ( about $ 150 ) like a kenwood excelon or similar
wiring about $ 25
Power through the firewall drivers side, ground the amp by the sub and good to go.
most new amps do not need a power/turn on lead wire.

time would probably take you 2-4 hours - maybe less.
A local car place will probably charge $750-$1000 for a similar setup

this will not increase the speakers, but will let you lower the bass to them and incease the overall volume. IF you add an amp to your radio it would be similar to the above
*( different amp needed ) but you have to run wires from wherever the amp is to all the speakers separately.

Find better speakers to drop into the factory slots. Try to find ones with the highest "dB 1w/1m" rating. Every 3dB there effectively doubles the power of your head/amp unit.

To improve volume, you need to add an amp....
To improve sound quality you'll need new speaker
To Pimp it out add a DSP - digital sound processor
