This is another good option. Renters can also be a pain in the ***** though.

In theory sounds like a good plan, but the market down here isn't big on duplexes, and when you do find one it's usually just one half for the same amount as a full house.

This is true. It's honestly my plan at the moment... It's all about how much BS you can really tolerate. I'll be the first one to tell you I don't want to live in a duplex, but im thinking of it as an alternative to supplement my income long term. If I do this I dont think it will be something I ever sell. I'd be looking to be in an actual house in 2-3 years.

Definitely need to know the market... but hey, it's an alternative to keep in the back of your head that may make you money someday if you find yourself in a suitable market!

Yeah, right now I'm just waiting to see what HR does about my boss who's a hot head and has cussed me out three times, cussed out the equipment guy, and apparently has others that have complained. Only way I'm staying here is if he goes or I move departments again. If he stays and they won't move me I'm weighing my options of changing projects to one by my parents. If they won't do that I'll begin looking for another job because I'm not going to work in a place where I'm concerned about my boss cussing me out over something insanely small. The last one was because I "didn't show a crane radius" in a drawing, but it was called out in the notes, and if I had dimensioned it it would have covered other important information.

I have no idea what you do, but im going to assume in the engineering field. I don't think any boss should treat their employees like that, my last boss was very bad as well... I totally feel your pain and that is very unprofessional of him. With that being said careful with the house idea if you aren't sure about the job situation... Don't wanna get tied down and not be able to cast a wide net for a new job if you think you'll be in the market.

Nice observation. I'm a field engineer. Yeah it's incredibly unprofessional. I'm not looking to buy a house until around June, so no worries there. I'm trying to get transferred to a different project with the same company unless they'll remedy the situation here (not looking likely). If that goes through I'll be moving in with my parents for a few months until the lease runs out here (3 months left, same as I'd pay to break the lease, plus that'd mar my history) then buy something. I'm supposed to talk to one of the HR people on Monday about the transfer because she should have a better idea of project openings. I'm also going to stress the situation to her and see what she can do about it all.

Regardless, they either need to get rid of him or move me to a different department. There shouldn't be people quitting over having to work with people, although we've had at least 2 quit from working with a different guy (different issues) that they haven't addressed, so i'm not holding too much hope.

Keep your head up itll all work out in the long run man. I can see getting cussed out in a construction site setting, or in a shop setting it seems to be a pretty common occurance in those fields however I still wouldnt put up with it. Your field should be much more professional...

I think the biggest problem is we aren't in the field at the moment. The project is at a full stop, and everyone is bored. So we have this field guy (likely in his first managerial role) that's bored and seems like he thinks he knows everything under the sun. So he's taking it out on others. Literally the last encounter was over something that was "left off" of a drawing, although it was in the notes in the upper left hand corner... My 3 complaints/incidents took him up to at least 5 complaints. No idea how many others he has...

A good company will set him straight... A good leader is only as good as his team below him.

Realistically the change that needs to happen is to his employment status. But I don't foresee that remedy happening. He's nowhere close to a good leader, when I first got moved to his department I heard him say "Once we get started if I have to pick up a tool someone is getting an *** chewing." That's not good leadership qualities. I've always been told lead by example, and don't tell someone to do something that you wouldn't do. My boss before him said he prefers to work with his guys, and that if I'm standing around and see him jump in, my *** better jump in too. Lol
