Question Powerstroke half ton build

Alright so pretty soon i will be starting a conversion in my 1996 f-150 2wd 5.0 5 speed. The 5.0 has 175,000 miles on it and the truck is still in good shape. so me and my buddy decided we are going to get a 7.3 liter powerstroke turbo diesel and transplant it in. i have a line on the motor, but i don't know what to do for the tranny or anything else to do for that matter, i know i will need a new rear end for sure because the little 8.8 will just explode with that much power. What i need is some suggestions and tips on where to start, and what kind of parts or key peices to run with.

-Thanks, Zac

Ya, but i see those alot. And to be honest i am just not a cummins guy, i don't like cummins at all, Couldn't tell you why its just the way i was born and raised i guess. but a 94-96 7.3 should fit in the engine bay because the f 1-350's were all the same in the body only on different frames and suspensions.

Need the computer. That's why the Cummins 4BT (usually on half tons) and 6BT swaps are the most swapped diesel engines in Ford trucks (often replace the 7.3's), you can get the mechanical versions. I know what you mean on how it was how you were raised, I'd pick any engine but a PSD cause it was how I was raised. You could also look into a 4.5 PSD V6...little be smaller but any 7.3 should fit in that 96 of yours. Transmission wise, you want a ZF5 or ZF6 (they will bolt up to a PSD block, especially if that was the doner) and at least a 10.25 rear end. The M5R2 that is in your 96 will bolt up to any of the Cummins B series blocks and are highly sought after in the 4BT market as they are used in everything from 4BT equipped Rangers to F150's and Expeditions. Oh, the ZF5 is known as a dog-legged 4spd with a granny low where R should be and you really only use low when pulling.

Correct me if i'm wrong but didnt the early-mid 90s f150s have that twin I beam suspension that was super weak? or whatever they called it where the front two tires would always bow inward at the top toward the motor...Would this cause troubles with a heavier motor? Just trying to think of everything!

My friends 96 F250 has the following. 7.3 PSD, ZF5 transmission (hydraulic conversion), 10.25 8 lug axle and a I-beam front suspension...

Well its only a 2wd, so i could just change out the coil springs and shocks and not worry about it all that much because the f2-350 2wd's were the twin-I as well.
