Sorry for posting pictures of such a dirty truck. I was glad to get the new All Terrain tires on as we still have some snow and there is more in the forecast.

I know that the weight of LT tires doesn't help my fuel economy, and fuel economy is very important to me, BUT I really think that the LT tires have a squarer shoulder on them that just help the truck to look more TRUCK.
This is probably one of the debates that many of us go through when tweaking a truck. Does it make sense financially or does it just make me feel good about my truck? Because of the miles that I rack up so quickly most of my choices need to be tempered with all the financial common sense that I can muster, and I try to keep emotion out of these decisions as much as possible. Sometimes, as we all know, common sense doesn't always win.

Default Center Cosole installation

I took the time today to get my center console cleaned out and remounted in place instead of the jump seat.

Center jump seat removed and my console brackets installed

My center console ready to be reinstalled.

Default More console pictures

As the thread tittle says, this truck is my office, then I suppose you could say that this console is my desk.

Most center consoles out there use a hinged top lid to allow access to the storage within. I would always find the lid in the way. My elbow would be trying to hold the lid up while my hand was inside the console getting something.
When I started designing this console I decided to try using full extension drawer slide hardware for the top. This allows me to open the console a little or a lot without struggling to control the lid. The only downside to a sliding top is in the rare instance that I have a backseat passenger I need to be cautious not to whack them in the knee when I open the console.
Another upgrade that I added on this second generation console is a pull out shelf. This allows me to pull out the shelf and set my computer on it when I'm not driving and need to use my computer. Most of the time it works very well and I am happy with it.
As many of you will understand, I have started to create a mental short list of changes or improvements that I would do for the next one.
Will it ever end??

Pretty cool...I was wondering why you didn't just get a factory console, but now it makes complete sense

Cool Console. What materials did you make the console from? I've been sort of wanting to replace my jump seat with a console, but don't really want a OEM one. I've seen a few cools ones from folk, but if I design my own, I don't know what I would make it. out of material wise.

Thanks Whoch,
I built this one out of 1/2" MDF. MDF is pretty easy to find at Home Depot/ Lowes. It cuts and routers nicely, and glues well.
You may want to start with a template of the floor where your box will go. Unfortunately the right and left panels will be different so you will need to make two templates. I used cardboard and just cut away a little at a time until it matched the floor fairly well.

I painted mine with a trim roller with a short nap roller. you can get custom color paint at Home Depot in 8oz sample sizes for just a few bucks which works nice for a small job like this.

None of my modifications have any financial benefit........ when I think about modifications I do to my truck I think of the line from talladega nights with the fig newtons sticker on the windshield. "This sticker is dangerous and inconvenient, but I do love fig newtons."

With that being said I do appreciate the console idea. I'm an auto Damage adjuster and I spend quite a bit of time working out of the company car and I really would appreciate a console of that magnitude. It's hard having the laptop on your lap between your chest and the steering wheel, or leaning over the console while it's on the passenger seat.
