Jus10s 97 f150 build thread
Figured I would go ahead and make a build thread too.
My truck is a red 97 4.2l f150 XL. My mom bought it for $1000 for my sister when I was younger but said she didn't like it and wanted a car. So I bought it from my mom and it's been mine since I was about 12 or 13. Me being to young for my license at the time I only drove it around from farm to farm, but other then that I didn't drive it. So my mom figured she could let my sister use it when she wanted. Even though I didn't want her to my mom let my sister drive my truck when she needed it (winter and such). And she ended up driving it through a barbed wire fence along our driveway. that's how it got all those horrendous scratches down the drivers side.
This is what it looked like
Haven't done anything major with it yet but this is what I have done so far
Painted the most visible parts of the frame. I can't stand looking at the rusty looking frame.
Before
After
For now I have only been using spray paint.
I also got a 18" glass pack put on but I wanted it louder so I ended up cutting it off and running no muffler.
Swapped my seats out I had the one bench seat and I wanted the split bench.
I heard about the Zip tie mod on a thread on this forum so I went out to look and see if my cable was stretched and it was
I regained so much more hp after this mod

My gas gauge didn't work when I got it and I was tired of having to reset the odometer every time I filled up. I picked up the sender unit and pump off a truck in a junk yard for $40
This is what the old one looked like
Dipped my wheels
1 can did 2 wheels and the hub caps

I have been saving up to get a lift for a while now and have been looking into lift choices and I was going to go with a 5" rough country lift and then I was thinking that I would probably want it bigger so I am looking into 6" zone lift. But I'm not sure which one to go with. I plan on probably running 33s or 34s until I get it regeard at some point.

Hey thanks. I'm still in the air on what lift to get for it. Only because the 6" comes with add a leafs for the rear and I don't want it to ride stiff. I will probably end up going with the 6 and if it's to rough just buy 6" blocks from somewhere.

Looks great!I have really been wanting to get a small older single cab f150 like this for a while. Would make a super nice prerunner if you are not dead set on the lift.
Before you put the lift on if possible I would save up and buy the tires and gears first then the lift. If you buy the lift and leave small wheels on it will look funny. If you buy the lift and manage to get the larger wheels as well it will drive like crap without the gears. I know how it goes wanting the cool stuff first but saving up and doing it in the right order will look nice and be better for the truck. Just my 2 cents
