For starters, Id like to have the new truck where the 15 left off. I loved how subtle it looked. Some could tell there were differences. They just couldn't tell what.

Johnny_bravo00 10-02-2018 12:08 PM

Before I sent the old truck back, I removed my Morimoto fogs and reinstalled the OEM. While they were out I used some rubbing compound to try and buff out some of the wear on them. They are a few years old and have gone through some rough Canadian winters. Gave them a good coat of wax when I was done with them.

Next on the list was the Charge cord relocation. This was a must have after doing it on my 15, not a fan of cords dangling around.

Used a magnetic charge cord this time. The male end of the connector stays inside the port of the phone. Just tap it close to the cord and it whips into place by means of the magnets. They are surprisingly strong. Very pleased with its performance while connected to Apple Carplay as well. Cord sits snugly in its new home. V

Next on the list were the much needed (and that's an understatement) Forscan changes.
https://www.f150forum.com/f118/forsc...-truck-348987/

1) DRL disable for Canadian trucks, I love the look of the amber's only and LED fogs.
2) Auto Start Stop fully disabled, cant stand this feature
3) Bambi mod (ability to run high beams + fogs together).

Also installed a Tempered screen protector to the 8" screen. Seems like cheap insurance from scratching the screen. Fit was perfect and application was easy.

Very nice! How is the seat of the pants feel with the newer 5.0 and 3.55 gears?

The 2 trucks drive completely different. There's definitely more power being put down, but I would say its mostly because of the 10 speed. It keeps the truck in a good torque range through all the gears. When your foot is on it, the 10 spd shifts flawlessly through the gears, but.. When you are driving through town and such, the 6 speed is much more consistent and smooth.

The gearing was my only oversight when building my last truck. I tow enough equipment to warrant the 3:55.

I agree on the 3.55 gears. They are a happy medium for my "mostly" daily driver.

Thanks Firerunner, I thought it looked pretty damn mean. Just like my wife. Lmao, Don’t tell her I said that!

Hot damn! I’m in! Truck looks awesome so far!

cannowg 10-05-2018 03:58 PM

Sick build so far! Was the decal on the hood from the factory?

Johnny_bravo00 10-05-2018 07:45 PM

It’s factory with SE package. The hood decal is the only decal I left on the truck.

Some things on the to do list:
Paint to match parts > bumper caps, tow mirror skull caps & some interior parts.
Tufskinz tailgate decal
Name the truck
LED license plate bulbs
Interior aluminum knob set
Mirror spotlight mod
wheel spacers
red’ing out XLT tails

Things I’m debating:
Powder coating square exhaust tip black
Interior ambient light, via some amazon light kit

Other basic stuff like Tint, Bedliner, Bakflip tonneau, etc are already done.

In the months of owning this truck I haven't done nearly as much as I originally wanted. I can say that I love this truck, although Ive already had some ups and downs with the 2018. First week I owned the truck someone in an unknown parking lot decided to hit my passenger front window with (lord knows what), and chipped it. Although its very small, its noticeable when the window is clean. Dealership quoted the fix at roughly $900. That will have to wait.

Getting other issues fixed first are in my sights. She's booked in to the dealership tomorrow morning to go over some issues. The dash around the cluster was not installed correctly from the factory, causing it not to sit flush to the cluster and sit high on the left side. The Panoramic roof has rattled very badly since week 1. That harsh sound when letting off the gas is very annoying, I believe its the TSB 18-2354. The CEL has come on. The occasional harsh downshift, and the truck has completely stalled at a stop sign before. Looking into all of that, plus 1 recall.

If I can get the rattling pano roof fixed, the dash set correctly + the TSB mentioned above, Ill be happy.

In the meantime, I recently added a shorty antenna I bought off amazon. Did not come with the proper adapter so I re-tapped it and used a stainless bolt that matches the threads from the truck. Looks very good IMO (even though CF is not really my thing) and mates up to the truck perfectly . Other mods will likely be coming in the springtime once all the snow and salt is gone.

I'm gonna just throw this out there: if you are confident enough to change the window yourself, you can buy a new one for $151.95 (+14.95 shipping) on eBay

Thanks for the link. To be honest, I'm debating getting the chip filled instead of replacing the glass. Windows are tinted as well adding one more thing to the mix.

Johnny_bravo00 02-21-2019 11:55 AM

Made a rear seat release today. Aside from the loop ($1.50), I had all items to make it. Dont know why I didn't do this before, very happy with the extra storage space.
Started by removing the latch & drilling a hole to allow the cable to pass through.
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...dfbe6df3af.jpg

Used some cable heat shrink to cover the cut ends.
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...911dbb93cd.jpg

Covered the cable that goes around the loop with heat shrink as well. Wanted to make sure there wont be any rattling or scratching noise from minor movements (although likely will not happen).
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...7693647b4b.jpg

Final Product. All crimped down, and heat shrinked up. Works like a charm.

Galvanized Cable (1/8"), Cable Crimps, wire shrink tubing, and the loop is called a cable thimble. All of these things you could get from any hardware store.

Love black for my vehicles. Pain in the butt to keep nice, but so worth it when clean. For the side badges I actually wouldn’t mind getting them painted. I think magma on black would be amazing (in the sunshine)

Im the type that doesn’t know where to draw the line, if I get my badges custom painted. I’d have to do front and rear ovals as well, and mirror caps, and bumper caps, and interior pieces. . . I’m sure you can relate. Lol

Truck is back at the shop getting fixed up (hopefully). Got a loaner Edge from the dealership. Although its better than the bright blue fusion I got a couple of weeks ago, still not my cup of tea.

Last time the truck was in they fixed the rattling Pano roof, as well as corrected the dash that was installed incorrectly from the dealership, **not related to the warped dash issue**. Although they acknowledged the TSB 18-2354 for engine noise on decel/accel, said they also needed to order and change parts which were attributing to the problem. Which is why shes still there. Fingers crossed on the outcome.

Yeah, I'm going to have to do the relocation mod. I use the heck out of my carplay and have the cubby open with a white Apple cord coiled around the shifter.

NOOO, my ocd cant handle loose cords dangling. lol. It is a great little mod, My old cord was getting pinched and kinked from the sliding tray door, as well as the braided cord was rubbing the finish off the sliding door in the corner. Cant have that!

Dude, why you gotta rub my face in it!?

Recalls are a no biggie, but I dont wish the decel/accel rattle on you. Your truck will be that Unicorn that is absolutely perfect. lol

TW3NTY2 02-27-2019 09:39 AM

Ha ha! I hope it is a Unicorn... I'll take the Factory Freak 5.0L while we are at it. That one motor that seems to have that extra handful of horsepower for no apparent reason...

Yeah, that was a nice looking rig. What did you have between trucks? Mustang?

TW3NTY2 02-27-2019 10:32 AM

I leased a Fusion that I am waiting to turn in. I also had a 2005 Mustang GT for about 8 months that I drove around. I move cars around way too often... I am really hoping this truck stays for a long long time.

Johnny_bravo00 02-27-2019 10:55 AM

Update:

Just got off the phone with the dealer service rep. I've been informed that the truck is done and does not have the issue anymore. She mentioned that they had done roughly 15 hours of warranty labor and needed other parts to remedy (rep didn't know exactly what). Asked them to park it outside for now to let it cool down completely and retest in a few hours. Ill ask to speak to the rep if I can when I get there this evening and update following.

Johnny_bravo00 02-27-2019 05:15 PM

Update 2: Good news & Bad news

I will try and word this as best as I can.
When I dropped the truck off 2 weeks ago I had a list of issues I wanted to be addressed. Recalls, Sound when letting off gas (TSB 18-2354), Dash installed incorrectly, Chirping sound at idle, and my Panoramic roof rattling.

The recalls were done, the dash was fixed and my Pano roof was fixed. They had to order parts for the truck for the rattle and noted that the engine *chirping* was attributed to the problem causing the decel rattle.

Fast forward two weeks, my dealership jumped through hoops and went right down the rabbit hole to fix the engine chirp.
Let me say that when I dropped off the truck 2 weeks ago I only mentioned it, to mention it. That was last on my list of things I needed done. My priority was the decel rattle.

After driving to the dealership ship to pick up the truck, drove out of the lot and heard the rattle. On the plus side the engine chirp is 100% gone (another thing I didn’t think was possible). Drove the truck back to the dealership and took the tech out for a ride to show him exactly what I needed. He acknowledged the sound. We went back in and he ordered parts for the rattle, which he said he has encountered before and can fix.

So so that’s where I am at. Truck is back at the shop for another night, but one more thing has been checked off the list.

list of work completed and parts needed to end the dreaded “engine chirp on 18 5.0

Wow, that really is a bummer. At least they are taking care if you. When I bought my 17 5.0, I had secretly wished I had waited for the 18 5.0, due to the extra HP. After all these threads about rattles with them, I am glad I got the 17 5.0 with the 6 speed.

It’s mainly the accel/decel rattle that’s frustrating. If we can get that fixed, truck would be amazing. Everything else on my list is/was superficial. Now that that’s been said, seems like an obvious time to point out how amazing the extra 10Hp, 13 ft lbs, and 4 extra gears feel when I hit the go pedal.

Johnny_bravo00 02-28-2019 01:17 PM

Update 3:

Just got off the phone with the dealership again.
Service rep mentioned that they were not happy to do only the TSB-18-2354, continued to change the driver's hub actuator. Told the rep again to let the truck sit out in the cold for some time and re-test in a few hours. Im not thrilled with the fact that they keep changing parts on my truck as it sits just over 10K km, but trust the hands working on my truck **at this dealership**. They've had our business for dozens of trucks and always treated me well. Hoping for the best when I go in later today to pick up, and return this horrible, horrible Edge.

TW3NTY2 02-28-2019 01:34 PM

Hopefully they get rattle fixed. There are many folks here that seem to have the same issue. As soon as someone can get the fix hopefully we can confirm with others. Would be a good step forward!

Agreed, im hoping there will be a recall at some point to address the issue. I refuse to be a guinea pig at this point though. Too many hands and new parts on one vehicle, someones bound to forget or screw something up. Worries me every time.

No problem, great little mod. Love being able to store stuff out of sight.

Johnny_bravo00 03-01-2019 08:58 AM

Not brand new anymore but thought I'd share some pics.
Box I built for the back of the truck. Keeps some of my tools right where I need them instead of sliding around. Right now there are 2 sand bags sitting on either side (4 in total). Built out of 2x12 & extra sheet metal I had leftover from a job. Finished it off with nice hardware and some Ford decals, the decal on the left is a Henry Ford signature. Was originally going to insulate the middle compartment to use as a built in cooler but haven't done it yet. Also fabbed a small bracket on the back for tow hitches so they're always within arms reach.

Johnny_bravo00 03-01-2019 04:13 PM

Update 4:

After starting the truck at the dealer last night, discovered the deceleration rattle was still present. Hub actuator clearly was not the perp. Truck was clearly re-flashed as the shifting strategies are all messed up again. Took the tech for a spin around the lot and showed the rattle sound which was not hard to produce. Decided to take the truck home regardless but they are expecting me back again on Monday. Debating whether or not to bring it in, I'm sure they'll throw parts at it but I don't want to sacrifice my truck to be the guinea pig.

The plus side is that the engine idle *chirp* is still gone.

andrewdod 03-02-2019 12:15 PM

I’m hoping they can fix it up as well. I’ve seen enough people say that as well (glad they didn’t get an 18), should be enough for fomoco to admit something is wrong and issue a fix. There’s no way they don’t know how to fix properly. I really don’t want to be like some of the others trying to go through the buy back process. I really do like this truck.

Obviously not the truck, but my wifes car. Will likely be the last time it gets cleaned by me. Leaving VW and have the "end of lease inspection" today.
Other than front tires (which I will be replacing), that review better come back spotless! Although its a pretty car, we cant wait to get rid of the damn thing.

Dang thats a bummer. Mine should be here on the 1st. I will be out of town so hopefully when I get home on the 6th it will be ready for me to pick it up! I always see your updates and think "He got it fixed! Gonna make a note of the fix..." Hope they get this worked out soon!

Johnny_bravo00 05-01-2019 05:15 PM

Finally got around to doing a small mod I've wanted to do for a while. Installed a 6 piece Interior light kit. One of those features (among a few) that I like from the higher trim levels. Would rather the factory kit with cup-holder and door lights, but this will do for this peasant for a while.
The colours are changeable as well as being dimmable. I like the red as it accents the interior red features on the SE's.

Strips are placed in the front of the front footwell, the front of the driver and passenger seats (glowing into the front footwell as well) & the back of the driver and passenger seats (glowing into the rear). I Cut the 12V socket off and wired it directly to the passenger side fuse panel using a "tap a fuse". The strips are powered full time when the truck is running and stay powered when the truck is turned off until a door is opened (or until the fuse times out).

New bit of exciting news for us, Mrs.Johnny_bravo00 drove home her brand new Jeep . The truck used to share the driveways with a 2015 Passat Sport (that will not be missed). The new jeep suits our lifestyle much better than that car. Very happy with the new purchase. Had a build in place with a dealer and ended up sourcing 1 of 1 in existence for sale in Ontario with all of the options we wanted.

2019 Jeep JL Wrangler Sahara Unlimited > Black
V6 - 8 speed Auto
Premium "Tech grey rims"
Tan leather interior (this is what made it a rarity)
Cold weather group
Safetytec group
LED lighting group
Nav and sound group
Dual top group (hard & soft tops)
Body coloured hard top
Trail rated
window storage bag & wheel locking nuts were a bonus

This new Jeep rides surprisingly plush, and the 8 speed is fairly "peppy".
Take all of this with a grain of salt as I would still drive my truck over the Jeep any-day.

Thanks John, I do like the red but I feel as if its borderline "ricey" lol. I'm really torn up about it. Maybe I'm just getting older! I was even debating the chrome package when ordering this truck........ Glad I didn't, but I debated it. So yeah, Rice>bad, Jeep>good

If you are going to order the fuse tap. The passenger foot-well uses the "micro 2" sized fuse. Totally ordered the wrong size at first without checking. SMH. Another thing to mention is that 4 strips I would think is more than enough. I was initially going to cut 2 of them down to size and mount them into the door pockets. Couldnt find a spot where they would be completely hidden so I scrapped the idea and put them under the front of the seats.

Brick'S hithouse 05-03-2019 03:53 PM

This looks great. I will now be awaiting your step by step install tutorial just like you did with the charger cord relocation write-up. Thanks in advance:D

Johnny_bravo00 09-04-2019 11:14 AM

Ordered a new 7" Rydonair antenna to replace the stubby I have on it. I like the look of the one currently on it but cant stand the bad reception anymore. I have a 13" Rydonair on the Jeep and it works as good as it looks. No noticeable reception loss after install, although I am going with a shorter version on the truck. Also, finally pulled the trigger on a raised lettering for the tailgate. Went with a black with red outline to match the fender badges. Cant wait for these to come in the mail.. Both aren't expected to come in for some time :(

TW3NTY2 09-04-2019 02:17 PM

I have a 6 3/4" antenna so the 7 should be just about the same as mine. I have not noticed any change in reception on my end! Fingers crossed it all goes well for you! I am anxious to see the letters on the back. I do not think I will do them as I am trying to go for the clean "de-badged" look.

That's good news, thanks for the input. As for the debadging, I typically am all for it. All side stripes & dealer badging had to go.. But.. The more I see that spot empty, the more I want to make it match. Weird.

Johnny_bravo00 09-09-2019 10:40 AM

Really like the look now that its on there. Seeing as the rest of the truck is naked *aside from the hood*, I didnt feel like I was cluttering up the truck too bad. The decal matches the side badges soo well, really happy with the results.

You should see the back seat of my XLT SE! My German Shepherd rides with me quite a bit since my wife banned him from our Lariat 502 SE and he doesn't fit in the Focus ST. I'm half tempted to take a leaf blower and just blow it all out.

I'll be curious to see what you do with the decel rattle. I was able to reduce the amount mine was doing it by changing to a Mobil 1 fully synthetic oil and oil filter, but like you I'm not ready to have my truck be the guinea pig. I too spent 2 weeks without my truck while they tried to deal with it (unsuccesfully) the first time.

[F2C]MaDMaXX 09-02-2020 11:27 AM

I'm sure i saw a Fordtechmaloco video a few weeks ago that there was a fix/TSB out for the decel rattle now.

LOL, I like the leaf blower Idea. Theres nothing worse than opening your windows on a nice drive and having a vortex of dog hair blowing around..

TSB does nothing. Ive had the truck reflashed more times than Id like, each time it needs to relearn driving habits. Couldnt be arsed to do it anymore.

Nothing fixes the decel rattle to my knowledge. My dealership and I were dead set on fixing it, but after multiple failed attempts. Big $$$$$ of Ford's money spent, and weeks and weeks (possibly even months) of my time driving loaners. Ill live with the rattle. The rattling pano roof I would like a permanent fix for though. Its been "fixed" 3 times and still rattles.

Johnny_bravo00 03-09-2021 02:47 PM

Removed my winter weight today. Roughly 350# gone. Feel like I picked up an extra 50HP by doing that.
Also, now that my warranty period is over. Ive contacted OZ Tuning and inquired about a tuner with the Omega tune. Only thing keeping me on the fence is that a 2021 might be a possibility for me in the following months, and at the moment, tuning the 21's is a no go.
Ideally, i'd like to be able to reuse the tuner for a 21 (if it becomes possible).

Side note: Currently the only option they have available is the HP RTD. Im not seeing the Ngauge available (which is not a deal breaker) but I think id prefer the Ngauge as you don't need a seperate laptop.

Johnny_bravo00 04-12-2021 03:16 PM

Finally received my warranty replacement Morimoto fog light yesterday. Got her installed and buffed up the passenger side at the same time. Happy with the outcome, and glad to have 2 working fogs again.
The stone chips got the touch up pen treatment at the same time. Life is good.

For our gen trucks pulling them isn't terribly hard as it's only three bolts but would be easier if the wheel was removed. Our's being round though it's probably super easy to just tape it off and hit it with a buff pad.

I had these same fogs on my 15 as well, and the connectors are long gone. They're hardwired to the truck, now.
Even if they weren't, I'd probably still opt to just tape it off. Removing them is only a matter of 1 set screw and a pair of clips, but the clips can be a little pain in the arse.

Well.. I'm pricing out a new custom order truck.

Looking to get into a 2022 Super Duty. Estimated delivery date... December Lmao!!!!
Finalizing all options wanted. This will be my first Lariat after 6 XLT's (first one being a Ranger). I guess im following Ford's intended natural progression system lol. XLT > Lariat and Ranger > F150 > Superduty.

So far the exact build is as follows.
2022 F250 Superduty Lariat
Crew cab with 6'9" box
Black appearance or Sport Package (not sure what the differences are for 2022)
7.3 Godzilla, 3.55 Locker
5th wheel prep
4x4
Lariat Ultimate package
Centre console
Tailgate step
Spray in bedliner
Clearance lights
panoramic roof
Upfitter switches
Pro trailer
And some odds and ends like all weather mats, wheel liners & mud flaps.

The only thing I'm torn between is choosing black appearance vs sport package.
Either way, I'm already anxious to get in to the "big truck".

Nice! Exactly what I was looking at before deciding to go with a '21 F-150 order. I think I would've pulled the trigger on the 250 if the interior had been redesigned like they will be in 2022/2023...

I couldnt wait any longer. The new truck will have the new Big screen, but basically the same interior as my current 18 F150, which is kind of a bummer. Its no secret the F150 is Ford's "golden child". lol

Yup, I did change a few small things in June however. Not far off from what Johnday mentioned about his brothers SD taking 10 months. Luckily I still have a perfectly good truck. Its not a good market to be in if your in any type of rush. :S

Subtle mods list to date.
1) Interior RGB 4 piece lighting kit wired into the footwell panel. I know theres existing ambient lighting but I like a little more light around the footwells.
2) Tufskinz "SUPERDUTY" lettering on hood in Magnetic Grey
3) UV Tints all the way around. 20% over existing rears as well as front windows, 35% on the windshield.
4) Flowmaster Exhaust tip. Did exactly want a branded tip. but this was the only one I could find that wasnt a 5". I would have gone with a black tip but have read nothing but issues with the coating failing.
5) Rydonair antenna
6) Tempered Screen protector. Ended up buying one for the F150's as I couldnt find one for the superduty's. Ended up having to remove the whole dash to get it in. That said. It is 100% covered, edge to edge. I have experience taking the dash's apart on the f150's, its no different.
7) Rear seat release. In hindsight. Its pretty much useless with the sub back there. I can keep only a very small amount of stuff back there.

Some interior shots with the footwell lighting on. It is an RGB kit but I only keep it on blue to match the existing factory ambient lighting. Luckily this kit uses an app to change the colour and I was able to (closely) find a match to the ice blue colour. It did take some time playing with the colour wheel tho. I typically keep the lighting at its minimum brightness, just turned it up so I could see when vacuuming.

Pro > you can see all the dirt when vacuuming.
Con > you can see all the dirt, all the time.

So sorry to hear. It’s infuriating that people take things from those who work hard for them. When I was 16 and green in knowing the ways of the world I had a Silverado stolen right out of my high school parking lot. I had done the works on it: lift, 35s, stereo, exhaust. To me at 16, that was my whole life. Truck was recovered stripped down about 3 weeks later. Insurance made me whole but I sold it shortly after. Just felt violated to know some low life was in my driver’s seat for 300 miles. Hope it works out for you whichever way is to your liking.

2022 Raptor 801A, 37 Performance package.
I loved every thing about the Blackout Superduty, but the Raptor is a welcomed replacement.
The only thing I dont love about it, I wish they came with a 6.5' box.

Only things added so far are the Rydonair 7" antenna & a screen protector :S. The mods list for this truck will stay very short. lol

The Raptor price tag + higher rates + no incentives = an empty wallet . I had the deal on the 250 locked in with much lower rates (before they skyrocketed). Even if I would've wanted to get back into the same 250, or comparable (which I wanted). It would have cost me an extra 10-15K and maybe a 8-10 month wait for the 2023. Me being impatient, I thought "why not a Raptor"? The 37's are like driving on pillows!
