Default Foxbody82's 2017 RCSB Build Thread

Hey everyone, figured it was time to start a build thread on my new RCSB. Started life as a nicely optioned Oxford White XL (chrome package, carpet, back up cam, tow package, etc...). I have had a few first and second gen lightnings (Drove a mint first gen from age 16-19 and have had a few others along the way) so I wanted to make my interpretation of a 3rd gen if they were to make one. Big picture is a sporty exterior (paint matched everything as first and second gens were), luxury interior (since everything has leather now and I really feel Ford would have amenities in a newer lightning unlike they did in the first/second gens), and a lot of usable power (make the truck work with the power supplied, don't want a burnout machine)
I have had the truck roughly two weeks at this point so not everything was documented with pictures, but here are some before and afters. I installed a Belltech 3/5.5 drop, lariat sport 20" wheels on bridgestone dueler Alenza tires, went to a lariat sport (5 bar white surround) grille, and installed the sync 2 factory nav head unit (everything is functional like factory).
Plans within the next few weeks include a set of Cal Trac Traction bars, a drag wheel set up (working with a company to make lightweight 6 lug billet wheels 4 in. front runner and a 10 in rear wheel), paint matching mirror caps and some other body pieces, bed cover, lariat LED headlights and tail lights, and Katzkin leather seats (or swap for true lariat leather seats.)
This truck is my daily, but it will be a street/strip truck. Waiting until I get a few oil changes before performance mods, but the truck will eventually be blown by a whipple 2.9 or possibly a big single turbo (80-85MM) if I can find a fab shop interested in the project and have some other go fast goodies. Looking to make 800+ RWHP and run well into the 10's with this truck over a span of the next two years. Then move onto a built short block, ported heads, cams, and make the elusive 1000 HP and run some 9's.
Just as a kicker I figure I will get some questions about my username. My background is in drag racing and I have been in cars since I was 13. Dad has always been a gear head so when I got my first summer job I went and bought a clean 82' mustang GLX hatch. Started out as a straight 6 daily driver. It is now an 8 second street car powered by a small block (windsor) with an induction solutions plate kit. Included a few pics of it as well to explain the username and the background as to why I want a very quick daily. Also pictured is my other hot rod. A 1967 Galaxie 500 that has an aluminum headed 428 FE motor.

Nice truck....Those other rides aren't to shabby either! Love that '67 Galaxie 500, My dad was a Ford man & he always had either a 60's Galaxie, 60's Comet, or a F100 - most times a combination of the three

Thank you. Just trying to gather performance stuff now and get this truck moving. Will probably run it N/A for a year or so and see if I can squeeze some low-mid 12's out of it then throw the boost to it. A few of these trucks will be capable of running well into the 10's within the next year or so so wanting to stay ahead of the curve if possible. Will run the lightning/truck class at many of the NMRA events close to home like bowling green, tulsa, and memphis

Love the Galaxie - that's my favorite year on those cars. I have a '66 Fairlane that was my grandpa's.
Needs some attention lately; it's been sitting at my parents' while I was at college, and my first few houses after college now. BUT I'm moving back to my hometown and should have a place for her so I can show her some much needed TLC.

Love the mustang.. almost thought it was a capri.

I think a plate kit for your truck would be fun.

Thanks everyone. Really dig the fairlane and have always wanted one to match my Galaxie. Just haven't found one solid enough that was a real GT or GTA.

I thought about nitrous for the truck since I am familiar with it, but filling bottles gets old after a while and after 3-4 seasons of it you could afford a blower if you spray it much. We'll use 3 mother bottles on the mustang (from the back it does get called a capri occasionally, have a Capri nose/hold that is paint matched and also have an 82 Gt' nose and air dam matched) a year and it's not but once or twice a month during The season. I feel like a turbo is the best option for reliability and power but I like the simplicity of a blower and it will make plenty of power for my goals. Plus staying with the lightning theme a blower just seems right.

Great collection! I really can't wait to see you take this truck down the strip after reading your plans and seeing what you've done with your foxbody!

I am patiently wait for the first oil change then its time for some power. Still in debate over which to use and which will be most effective for an all around quick truck. Wanting something to be quick to the 1/8th and 1/4, but still be fun on high speed stuff like 1/2 mile events. Pretty high goals for 10's in the 1/4, 6's in the 1/8th, and be able to still move out from 40 mph. Talking to many of the companies and weighing options but I will have a little time.

I'm sure you've seen threads where people are running the Whipple 2.9 kit and pushing 646rwhp without any other additions right? I think your plans are fairly easily achievable. Good luck! I look forward to seeing progress!
