Background: Active duty military maintainer here. Owned my truck since 2019, taken very good care of it the last 3 years, first 2 years of driving were closer to the level of brutality a police cruiser sees on the road.
Recently replaced the spark plugs after 75,000 miles and about a month of misfires and troubleshooting. Broke 3 of the 6 connectors, and recently went from the proud owner of a V6 to the sad owner of a V5.
Those broken connectors have got me thinking about ways to prevent the same issue from happening in the future. One of those ways I can think of would be to swap the plastic clip connectors for ITT MIL Spec cannon plugs, but the coil packs are potted, and without blowing apart the coil packs and risking a grounding issue in the near future, does anyone have experience or knowledge with anything like this? I know NASCAR uses cannon plugs and Deutsch connectors but aside from that and aerospace applications, I can't find any common uses.
What issues might I have if I swap all 6 plastic clip connectors with cannon plugs? ITT Cannons 5015 MIL Spec aviation connector has the closest pin sizing to the wire gauges used for the ignition coil packs.
cannon plus are meant for frequent on and off use. if you are only taking the connector off every 75K miles, it would be pointless. Just replace the plastic clips and be done.
