Default autkidd's 2016 Race Red XLT

My name is Tommy and I'm from Alabama. Thought this would be a good place to document some changes and also get some ideas for my 2016 Race Red F150 XLT.

I'm coming out of a 2015 Jeep Cherokee and have been looking for about a year and a half for a good deal on an F150. I'm an account manager for a Mack Trucks dealer and really needed something bigger for work. One of my coworkers has a 2013 F150 and has talked highly of it and I was always impressed with the room in it.

Last Saturday, I go by the local Chevrolet dealership (where my wife and in laws have purchased their last couple of vehicles from) and look at a 2011 King Ranch with extremely low miles. After test driving it and going through it, I spotted a 2016 XLT with around 52k miles. I'm not a huge fan of red (especially being an Auburn Football guy), but this color just hooked me in. After going back and forth and test driving this, I decided this one was it. Plus I got it at a better price and figured it would be a little more flexible to make some adjustments to really make it mine.

At the dealership.

At the house

I had been following this forum for a couple of weeks before purchasing and had an idea of some of the few changes I wanted to start off with.

But my first update was some OEM running boards. My wife is fairly short, so this was a necessity. My father in law found a guy on craigslist that had a set of them for $125 about 45 minutes from me. I went by and got him down to $100. He deals alot with pull offs and sells stuff on Ebay and Craiglist.

I promptly went home and installed my running boards.

Next was a few things off of Amazon.

I ordered a pack of
JDM Astar LED's JDM Astar LED's
to replace the license plate lights
In addition I ordered the
DEE ZEE Tailgate assist. DEE ZEE Tailgate assist.
This probably will be the best $25 I will ever spend on this truck.

I also ordered a set up
SmartLiner Floor Mats SmartLiner Floor Mats
. My coworker has these and has said good things about them. They should be in tomorrow.

I also have a Better Built Toobox ordered in gloss black from one of our installers we deal with at work.

Some of the other mods I have planned:
-Window Tint
-Leveling kit
-PTM bumpers
-Change out the 4.2 screen to touchscreen. Trying to decide to go the 8" Sync or Aftermarket
-Back Up Camera
-Bull Bar
-18" black wheels
-All Terrain Tires
-Fender Flares. Trying to decide on Race Red flares or Black
-Blackened Decals
-Leather Seats
-Shorten the antenna
-Trim Air Dam
-Smoked Headlights
-Replace the grill to a glossy black, not going for the raptor look.

I'm sure I'll get many more ideas as I continue to check out the forum and feel free to add any comments or ideas!

Here's a few ideas for you. My wheels are 20s but they are available in 18s. They are Mayhem Assaults. They come with chrome and red inserts. Really sets of the Race Red and I can't believe all the good comments I get from all ages, men and women. My truck is the XLT Sport SE. The Lariat SE has a nice grille with Race Red highlights. I was going that route but went with the Raptor look instead. I have the front and rear Race Red bumpers and the XLT SE grille if you would be interested, also SE 20 inch wheels and tires. Keep us posted as you mod your truck.

Nice looking truck. Buying a red truck is the first step to coming over the dark side. ROLL TIDE! Lol.

The list of mods you have are pretty good. They're going to look great. Let the fun begin.

Haha. Won’t happen, though my wife is a big Bama fan. I knew we were meant to be as we were at the Kick Six game and made it through the next week.

I can get the bumpers painted pretty easily at work as we have a full body shop, though the trucks they usually work on are much bigger.

What tint do you have?

i have read read through some of your build. I’m very intrigued in changing the gauge cluster out. How did you get the mileage to match to the true mileage?

You can buy a cluster either on your own or one from @Clusters by Livnitup & he will set the correct mileage, hours, etc to match your truck. I purchased mine before he started, but it was the same process... decide how many miles you'll put on your truck in a weeks time, then give him a mileage mark that is 75ish miles above what you figured. He'll enter the mileage, hours, etc. & ship you the cluster. When you hit that mark you simply remove your old one & plug the new one in.

When you decide to do this you can either PM him or post in this thread - www.f150forum.com/f122/2015-2018-8-f150-instrument-clusters-400378-new-post

The cluster is the one thing YOU get to see and enjoy every time you drive it. I got my almost exactly a year ago and all the mods I've made including AMP power steps this is still by far the best. The experience dealing with Livnitup was great. He was more than happy to answer all my questions and concerns.
