Changed the oil today with the oil life indicator showing 5%. I put in a new Motorcraft FL500S filter and seven quarts Mobil 1 5W-20 full synthetic. It showed at the max line on the dipstick before starting it up and running it around the block. I'll check it again in a few days.

I removed the old cabin air filter today to replace it, but it looked new. I blew some compressed air through it and reinstalled it. I'll keep the new one in the bag for the next maintenance cycle.

Brought the truck in for an alignment and suspension retorquing. It's driving solid, just some typical creaking from the rear leafs.

Excellent.

And, while we're here, we'd sure like to see additional new photos of this gorgeous truck from time to time.

Please don't be shy.

This goes back awhile, but I was waiting on the documentation. I brought the truck in for a moonroof alignment because it was stuck in the closed position. I squeaked it in just under the factory warranty expiration. No leaks or other problems to report.

On 8/31/2019, I loaded up the bed with yard debris in preparation for Hurricane Dorian (which, incidentally, didn't end up coming anywhere near us). My entry weight was 3.27 tons, and my departure weight--what I ride around with daily--was 3.13 tons.

I found a tan Softopper from a 2013 Dodge Ram pickup with a similar-sized bed at a decent price, so I called the company to see if it'd fit. They told me it should, but it may be a little tall... so picked it up. It didn't take long to install and fits perfectly. I haven't driven with it yet, so more testing is in order. I haven't installed snaps in the bed or velcro on the tailgate, and I won't if I can avoid it. We'll see. Here are some photos:

They say to install the SofTopper rails on the extreme inside of the bedrails, so that's where it is. I might be able to get away with moving the rails out a bit, based on the way it looks and the tension in the fabric. There's some leeway.

I came back from lunch with a friend and our kids and the moonroof wouldn't close. I found a small piece of plastic in the driver side track. After removing the plastic bit, the moonroof closed.

KO2's now have a little over 31,000 miles on them and they're wearing in nicely. I'll need to rotate them in another 1,100 miles or so. They do start to get noisy as I approach 5,000 miles between rotations.

I've installed my BoxLink brackets but I haven't cut the load bars yet. I'm detailing that project in this thread.

I added a cargo net to the ceiling of my SofTopper today using the side-release buckles on the topper for rolling the back and sides up. I purchased a handful of male & female buckles here and used a bungee net I had lying around. I don't plan for it to hold anything heavy... maybe life jackets & what-have-you.

I installed a new battery today. I still need to update my FORScan license so I can get in there and reset the BMS.

Also, I removed the Softopper cargo net some weeks ago. It was more annoying than useful.

EDIT: Downloaded the FORScan Beta and reset the BMS. Ran into some weird stuff I'll post in the FORScan sticky.

I haven't done much with the truck lately. I've been working from home all year. Today, however, I started on a project I've wanted to do since I got the bumper nearly three years ago: installing a winch.

I pulled the trigger because the one I had my eye on suddenly dropped $150 in price... and I figured with the end of days bearing down on us, what better time to do it? I purchased a Smittybilt X20 12,000 lb winch, a Fab Fours winch plate, and some shackle mounts. The winch plate was last to arrive (today) and I tackled it as soon as it got here. The installation instructions are right: this is not a one-man job. But with some help from a jack and some stands I was able to pull the bumper, tuck the winch and plate up to the mounts, and then get the bumper and shackle mounts in place.

It's not a very clean look. I'm considering 3D printing some covers for the gaping holes in the front. I won't need access to them until actually using the winch.

I didn't spool the rope or hook up the controller yet. I'm actually designing a controller mount that will bolt to the side of the battery box:

The orange box is the fuse holder. The controller will slide to the holes in the mount.

Sometime this weekend I'll spool the rope and start on wiring.
