2015 Super Crew Lariat 5.0, ownership log
7 Attachment(s)
Last November, I totalled my daily driver and after an exhausting search for a truck, I settled on this one. It's a 2wd, 2015 F150 Lariat 501A, chrome package, towing package and 18" wheels. It has the 5.0, 6-speed auto with 3.55 gears. It's actually fairly quick for stock truck. I'm going to add my touch to it as time goes on.
Attachment 484517 Oh and I call it, Pegasus. Attachment 484518 6000 mile update I've made a few observations in two months of ownership and I'll list then expand on each. 1] Ride stability and quality - This thing rides great on decent roads and handles like a truck should. However uneven expansion joints, rough transitions, big dips or any bump in a curve is enough to upset the rear end. Think snap oversteer in our SN95's and you get the picture. It also bounces several times after a big dip, enough to bounce my head off the head rest. Kind of unsettling really, the roads here are well terrible at best in places and I consider this a liability. Fix - Did some research on the subject and it's a well documented issue. Ford 'under valved' the shocks and has yet to release a TSB but no one has died as a result so... Enter a pair of Bilstein 5100 shocks for the time being. Soon, I will be installing a Belltech 3/5.5 lowering kit complete with sport struts/shocks. 2] Driving Impression- It effortlessly blends into traffic and has no problems as a daily driver. At low throttle take offs the 1-2 shift feels sorta vague but if you really stand in it, the TiVCT shifts [VTEC KICKS IN YO] and she really moves. Any speed under 60 mph? She kicks down to 2nd gear, it's a riot. Truly. In fact, I really think this truck would've whipped my PI swap car with it's 2.73's. 3] Interior/Creature comforts - The heated/cooled leather seats are comfortable but not 'too cushy' and it doesn't lead to fatigue. Period. The steering wheel is nicely padded, hand stitched leather and has cruise/phone/radio controls evenly spaced. The remote start has paid for itself a few times. The ambient lighting it a nice touch and helps locate the cup holders in the dark. I've only added the WeatherTech floor mats thus far but intend to do a few more things sooner or later. Had the front windows tinted with Suntek Carbon 18% to match the rear: Attachment 484519 Attachment 484520 Attachment 484521 The aforementioned Bilstein 5100's: Attachment 484522 Attachment 484523 SCT X4 tuner with MPT tunes and JLT cold air intake......installation pending delivery |

The shocks that came with the belltech setup left a lot to be desired. This weekend they were swapped out for a set of Bilstein 5125 series shocks. The ride is now firmer but more controlled, which was what the Belltech shocks were lacking. My longer term goals include a pair of Viking D220’s and helper bags with a custom crossmember to mount each. Safety first!! It’s so much easier to work on a truck! The Bilstein’s required 1/2 hardware and the truck came supplied with 12mm hardware. This necessated I drill out one side of the mounts to fit the shank of the 1/2 bolt. The threads fit the 12mm side without issue. All hardware was upgraded to Grade 8 and properly torqued within an inch of its life. The u-bolts are long enough support a set of traction bars...hmm... |
I had my bumpers wrapped in a gloss white vinyl this weekend. The mirrors and door handles will be re-done in white in the near future. I'm also considering having the roof wrapped black. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...67c9f8388.jpeg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...1b130d6e7.jpeg |
