This is the better forum anyway...

I'm a member on there as well, and between this forum and the EcoBoost Forum, I stay plenty entertained. I also frequent a few others. Gotta have something to do at work!

(I can because my job is purely standby...Industrial Medicine)

The rims were supposed to go on this past weekend but it iced over and our city puts down a salty brine and sand solution and I am glad is not all over my rims. It is supposed to rain this weekend but I am going to try to get some stuff installed. The truck needs to be washed badly but it keeps freaking raining and now I see we are supposed to have cold and rain until next Friday. I think Mother Nature hates me. That or she drives a Chevy.

I do IT work for the city I live in so I can pretty much browse wherever I want. I spend alot of time here and playing an online game since I am pretty much on standby all the time too.

Well I finally got some work done today. It is also with great regret that I admit I have gotten way too out of shape and fat. I have been working from home for 3 years and it appears the inactivity has taken a great toll. I got in the floor of the garage to do the wheels and upon finding my impact and compressor are not strong enough to remove the lugs I found out I almost never got up off the floor. Thank God my truck was there to help.

On a brighter note I have a good friend who is going to install my drop shackles, exhaust and wheels for me tomorrow. I will be there to assist but I have an uphill health battle that must be my next fight after this truck is at a stopping point. I am not working at home anymore so there is no better time than the present.

Anyway, enough of my sob story. You guys want pics. lol. Only 3 and not much to report but I got the STX and Flex Fuel decals removed, front license plate and bracket removed (Need to find something to fill that crater) got the FX4 Heads and tails installed and got the nerf bars removed. I also ran her through a quick car wash to get a majority of the dirt off but since its going to rain I did not get too picky with the results. I am not sure if I will be putting the nerf bars back on or not. I originally intended to PTM them but I kinda like it without them. Thoughts?

I got it all done. I must say I really like this truck the way I have it now and today was a very educational day. This is what I learned today. Wider wheels (+38 offset) compared to factory will NOT fit through an automatic car wash. I will get more into that rant in just a few minutes.

Ok, shims and shackles went on without a hitch. no vibrations yet but will pay attention to it for the next few days. Love the new stance and as much as I want to lower it so bad, I cannot. I like the way it rides now and I do plan on doing some light hauling in the future. So, how she sits is how she will sit from now on. I wish I could go down about another 2/2 and not lose ride quality.

The exhaust is phenomenal. I love love love Magnaflow. I dumped it over the rear axle so I have nothing showing and it sounds absolutely climactic when you get on it on from a roll.

The wheels. Let me tell you about the wheels. I ordered KMC Slides. 4 x 22x9.5 +38 offset (Yes, I realize my mistake now. One small puddle and I have crap all over my truck. Not sure how I am going to address that yet but something will come up. 1 of the rims they sent me is a +15 offset I know this because its on the back and it does not stick out as far as the other rear wheel. The other 3 stick out about an inch further and while I am ok with that, I want them all uniform. I will be contacting the company I got them from tomorrow to see how they will handle it. I am hopeful for a new rim and reimbursement for mounting, balancing and shipping them the other rim back.

Now, the car wash. It won't fit with these wheels. You want to know how I know? Go ahead, ask me. Thank you, I am glad you asked! It won't fit because it's too damn wide! I got two gouges on the right side as my proof!

I went through it yesterday as I have for many years to get the salt and sand off and it did a great job. Touchless and always comes clean. These wide tires get crap all over the paint so I went back through for a rinse before I got pics. For my trouble I got a good size smear/gouge on both passenger side rims on the edge. Neither of these are the 1 rim that has to go back. Not sure how I am going to deal with these two wheels yet. I might sand them smooth and touch up using black paint. Shouldn't be too hard but it burns my biscuits to have made such a stupid mistake. One that I should have foreseen.

Anyway, here she sits. My TPMS light has not come on or gone off so I guess its played nice with the tires. I am ecstatic about that atleast.

lol. Thanks. I ran across yours here when I was looking for pics of the wheels on black 09-14's. Wish I had your grill. I still have some PTM stuff to do but I am waiting on warm weather. I guess I will have to take some time off work to get them done since a weekend isn't enough time to do them all at once.

A few updates. I have been posting over at the other site but thought I would drop them in this thread too. The wording on these may make it seem like times has passed even though I am posting it today but these go back a little over a month. Enjoy.

This is my PTM portion of this project. I know there are tons of how-to's on this so I am not going into details on how to do it but I will detail my steps and materials for posterity.

PTM Items:
Mirror Caps
Both door handles
Tailgate handle
Mirror turn signal fillers
Front and rear "FORD" emblems
Both fender "F150" emblems
Tailgate "F150" emblems

I bought all new parts except the badges and emblems (ended up buying them as well) so I would minimize my downtime with my truck. Once I install them I am passing my old ones to a friend for his truck’s PTM project and he will give me his old stuff to sell to recoup my money.

I am sanding, cleaning, using adhesion promoter, primer, color matched basecoat, clearcoat, and a bunch of sanding in there. All from Automotive Touchup.

I have all the badges off and separated. I am about halfway done sanding the handles and mirror pieces now that I found my palm sander. My carpal tunnel only lets me sand in short durations so this will not be a fast process. I will work on it daily and keep this updated with pics.

The "F150" badges and the "Ford" emblems are going to be Tuxedo black with some vinyl work from Moody Blue to finish em off. I still need to figure out how to get the entire "Ford" emblem off the tailgate, but I am working on that now. This part is done.

This will eliminate the last of the chrome on my truck.

And the firsts pics:

More updates soon.

Some plans got cancelled so I had alot of time to spend on this project. I finished sanding the parts, sprayed 2 coats of adhesion promoter and 2 coats of sandable primer. They are almost perfectly smooth. I decided to call it a day and let the primer cure really good before progressing to the basecoat. Pics as promised.

I am going to try to put down the basecoat tomorrow or atleast the first coat.

I also cleaned up the chrome and black badges. I am trying to decide how I want to handle the chrome. Not sure I want to sand it or try treating it chemically. More to come soon

I tested a piece of the chromed fender badge and bleach removes the chrome. I have them all soaking in bleach now. Says it could take a day. I will post results tomorrow. I have it outside and covered (with a vent) for the fumes.

Progress report. I think the bleach got neutralized overnight. Alot of the chrome came off but what is underneath is very rough. I cleaned them up, replenished the bleach and have them sitting outside again. At this point if they are ruined I have nothing to lose so I am going for broke. If they are ruined then I will replace them with the Black and red FX2 badges and just get rid of the red.

Weird...I remember posting the outcome to the bleach chrome removal but its gone. Oh well, the chrome pieces did not survive. They ended up pitted and the chrome was not even completely gone so I trashed them. I am ordering the FX2 black/red ones and donating the red inserts to a friend who wants them.

Anyway, I got the primer wet sanded, cleaned up and got 3 coats of base color down. Truth be known, I am a bit concerned. The primer was super smooth but the color seems to be really rough and almost textured. I am going to let them cure till Monday and then wet sand and then 3 coats of clear. When I first applied the Tuxedo Black it looked good int he sun. A perfect match. But now that all 3 coats are done it hardly has any sparkle at all. I hope sanding and clear changes that. I accidentally left the handles out of the pics. Did not realize it until just now. They were hanging up so out of sight, out of mind. But they look as good as these do.
