Default I Finally Traded in My Tank For the New EcoBoost

What's up guys, I finally traded in my 2012 F150 5.0 Tank for a 2019 F150 FX4 EcoBoost all because I needed to tow more. Lets just say I am super happy with my decision! This 3.5 eco boost is awesome! Not only does it get way better gas mileage than my 12.5mpg I was getting in my lifted 5.0 but it tows like a champ. I towed my 30ft trailer from Southern California up to Northern California like it was nothing, while still getting better gas mileage than my 5.0 just daily driving! I am exited to start making this truck my own.

This was my 5.0 that was a great truck, It just couldnt tow as much as i needed it to. I do miss this truck but excited for my new ecoboost.

Picking up my trailer in Southern California about to head back to Northern California.

This truck Towed this trailer up the grapevine like it was nothing!

First of all both of your trucks were gorgeous. just bought a 2011 5.0L Lariat. I have been contemplating lifting it but now that I’ve seen your post I may not. I’m getting 24 mpg at 60 mph on factory 18” wheels. 19 mpg at 75 mph. I don’t fixate too much on gas mileage bc I don’t hit the highway for extended periods. But I’m curious at what you were getting and how big of a lift you had? I’m leaning toward McGaughy’s 6.6” with 35” A/T tires.

Thank you very much! my 2012 f150 5.0 was a excellent truck! I had a 4" Rancho suspension lift with 35" mud terrain on 18" wheels and added front and rear barricade bumpers with a 12k winch on the front and after all that I was getting 12.5 MPG and it was slowly dropping. I drive a lot for work and on the highway so it was killing me in gas! I loved that truck, I wouldn't have got rid of it if it was capable of towing more. Never had issues with the truck besides driver side cat going out and a short in a wire for drivers side window, other than that the truck was awesome. Did everything I needed it to off and on road.

I’ve heard nothing but great things about the 2011-14 5.0 trucks. I just found a 1 owner, 56k mile immaculate Lariat 4x4 for 17k. Hopefully I can get it as nice as yours was. In the future, if you find that your mpg are dropping, try cleaning from the intake-down with sea foam intake cleaner. I also pour the sea foam fuel injector cleaner in my gas tank when I do this. Myself, and most people I talk to usually report a 1 to 1.5 mpg gain after doing so. Just before I change the oil, I pour the cleanser in the crankcase as well. I’ll drive it w day or 2 and then change the oil. I find doing this really helps keep the throttle response and mpg as good as the day it rolled off the lot.

Nice trucks, old and new! You definitely upgraded, I went from a 2012 to a 2015 (both 5.0) and the 13th gen truck is far superior to the 12th gen in my book. Loved my 12 but the 15 blows it away.

Also love those Sport wheels! I added them to my 15, I think it’s the best factory 18” wheel out there.

Man you got a killer deal! Oh you'll definitely get the truck how you want it eventually! Americantrucks.com was my go to site, they have really good prices and they have the option to use affirm and finance stuff. I will for sure keep the sea foam in mind. Im not gonna be lifting this truck with the big 35s, ill probably just do the leveling kit so I can fit a little bigger more aggressive tire in there. Im gonna go for the low mean stance with this once since I will be towing a lot more now, and to be honest its fun seeing how good of gas mileage I can get now. I've always owned v8s so I got used to the bad gas mileage and now its like a game to see how good I can get.

My good buddy has the 2015 f150 lariat 5.0 and that truck is Saweet! These fords have come a long way from what they used to be that's for sure! It was hard for me to trade in my red truck for sure, I just wish it had the towing capacity as the new ecoboost but it is what it is. I am in love with this ecoboost. Its got plenty of get up, just kind of sounds like a vacuum cleaner with stock exhaust but hey ill throw something on there to get a little bit of sound out of it eventually.

These rims are pretty sweet, ive had a couple buddies say the same thing. ill probably rock them for a little until I get some aftermarket ones. I'm trying to figure out if I'm either going with black rims of possibly a bronze wheel. Its still up in the air with color and style.

That looks like a big 'ole trailer.

Pushing the over-loaded numbers by chance?

haha yeah its definitely bigger than I thought it was, but the trailer loaded up full tanks and all is only 11k, and the truck tows 13200k and ill tell you what it towed that trailer without issue. I picked it up in southern California and drove back up to northern California so it was a little over 8 hours of driving. The real test was coming up the grapevine with it. Its safe to say these trucks can tow! Also I did all this within the first week of buying the truck off the lot. Definitely impressed with this little ecoboost for sure!

Thank you. I may have a layout plan that might interest you. I’m going to post the items in the next post. I didn’t want to lose my mpg and lift kits are EVERYWHERE down here. I also didn’t want to half-*** it, so that means a time and gears and calibration would be a must. I’m trying to do this on a budget, though. So I decided to go with a Baja-style build. I’m going with the 0-3” Icon true reservoir shocks and struts and a 20x10x-12 rim. The plan is to have a mild lift with wheels out 2” or so on true suspension. I won’t have to mess with the gears and the calibration won’t be off much. I also won’t sacrifice ride quality or mpg. The rims I chose are $325 per rim marked down to $129/rim for a limited time. If you’re curious about the rims or lifts I’ll send links when I get a chance. I’ll eventually remove the front bumper as well.
