13' ECO.BEAST Build
I ordered the truck on 4/8/13, and it's likely being assembled as I type this. Stealership said 8-10 weeks, so I'm looking at delivery shortly after 6/3/13 hopefully. MSRP before tax & fees was $51,935 but after pitting 10 dealerships against each other I walked away $47,755...still ouch.
My Base: Race Red 2013 F-150 SCrew 5.5ft FX4; Fully Loaded with - Luxury Package, FX Appearance Package (love the black leather w/red trim), Navigation, MoonRoof, Tail Gate Step, etc. (Built like this) http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8397/8...91bfce02_z.jpg My Disclaimer: I know I'm going to end up modding the hell out of it like everything else I've ever owned, so I've been reading the forums and checking out parts online etc since I dropped my $5k deposit 3 weeks ago. I suppose this is more of a preemptive thread, but I thought I'd get it rolling so I can get some feedback and idea's before I start going nuts ordering parts. I'm going to post my parts wish list and I'd love feedback especially those who can speak from experience as to if they had good/bad luck with said parts, or know a better way... or just have some styling ideas. I'll be sure to post pics and updates with each new mod. Also, I come from more of a muscle car and motorcycle background, so I'm new to the truck scene, lifts, suspension etc. (I've owned 64 1/2, 66, 78, 87, 91, 03 Mustangs, 07' Harley VRSCDX Super Charged 184rwhp, along with several other cars, bikes, and an Explorer) https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...04742517_n.jpg My Goal & Application: I love the wide stance and body work of the Raptor, (sans the two tone fender flares etc), but I don't really need something I can launch myself 90 feet over the dirt with...although Parts list's to follow! INPUT & IDEAS APPRECIATED |
So lets start with the body
I'm going to need to choose between big flares (which I'd PTM race red, with visible no rivets) Like Deko's rig here- https://www.f150forum.com/attachment...s-img_0028.jpg https://www.f150forum.com/attachment...s-img_0025.jpg OR The FiberWerx Conversion (which I read is new and improved from their old kit which had fitment issues). I like the FX4 PTM'd fender flares over the OEM contrasting Raptor flares, so even with this kit I'd PTM as shown. http://www.fiberwerx.com/wp-content/...2/IMG_8963.jpg I'm not dead set either way yet...obviously the first option would be cheaper, and might look better with the minimal lift I want to do. I want to go with the biggest tires I can fit, with no rub, and a 2-2.5 level lift. According to - PizzaMan71 @ http://www.f150online.com/forums/sus...ml#post4956795 I can go up to 35" on my FX4 with the 2.5 level... If that's correct, and I could go wide enough to fill out either the Raptor Conv or those flares, that'll do perfectly. |
As far as wheels are concerned, as I said I'd like to go with a more street than off road look, though I definitely want to beef up the rubber. Also, keeping performance in mind, I'd like to go with a reasonably light wheel (if such a thing exists) in 22" or 24" (as long as it doesn't create a low pro tire look). I was never one to think 20"s looks good, but they come stock on my truck, and the wheel wells are so damn big, I don't think 22's or 24's with 35" rubber would give it that "urban" appearance I'd certainly like to avoid.
Perhaps the TrueTorged Mach Six in black http://www.trueforgedwheels.com/cont...Mach%20Six.jpg Or American Racing AR890 http://www.tirerack.com/images/wheel..._mba_ci3_l.jpg Or KMC D2 http://www.tirerack.com/images/wheel...d2_b_ci3_l.jpg Since I don't want to go nuts on suspension, I've been told I'll need to go wide on the tires/wheels or space them out (and run the risk of stressing certain components?) I like the blacked out look, a theme I intend to expand on with this project, so I'll likely go with black wheels, and save the OEM 20's for a winter snow tire set. |
Ill be watching this build. I have an 11 Ecoboost CrewCab that we have been adding engine upgrades to. We are starting on the lighting and exterior mods soon. I cant answer questions on the wheels and tires yet, be we have done a lot of intake and tuner testing.

ECOBEAST 28 suggested a headlight retrofit to me. While I ordered the truck with OEM HIDs, I looked into it a bit and RetroShop.us will disassemble, paint, and modify them any way you want.
I'll likely be going with a scheme like this, but on the OEM HID's with smoked reflectors, and maybe some LEDs. http://retroshop.us/2009+%20Ford%20F...s/DSC08857.jpg Other than that, LED upgrade bulbs inside and out. And since the FX4 comes with the nice black trimmed tail lights, I may just paint the inside edge black, or add some smoked covers. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...66/tails-1.jpg I also intend on picking up the blacked out tail light and mirror signals. http://www.gorecon.com/product_image...image-1593.jpg http://www.gorecon.com/product_image...image-1513.jpg And, what operator could resist a 30,000 lumen light bar?..lol http://a248.e.akamai.net/origin-cdn....jpg?1355849930 Roof mount? Hood Mount? On an ADD front bumper? Or maybe behind the grill...? http://addictivedesertdesigns.com/sh...194-Small3.jpg ^ Love that bumper |
Picked up the truck today and it's beautiful. The race red is almost neon...makes my 03' mustang look dingey and faded. Also just ordered a Undercover Flex folding toneau cover, weathertek mats and vent visors. I'll post pics in the next few days.
|
Can't wait to see how it turns out. I would get the flares that you posted first. And for rims I would keep the stock AP 20's and put some meaty tires on them I would also mount the 50" light bar on the roof.
|
Having the windows tinted tomorrow, and I have a Line-X appointment June 3rd.
Then I'll be installing the following items which are on order and should have arrived by then; Undercover Flex folding toneau cover WeatherTek front and rear Digital Fit Floor Mats WeatherTek Vent Visors WeatherTek Mud Flaps Recon smoked LED Third Brake Light Carraige Works Black Billet Lower Grill Bushwacker Extend-a-Fender (after I PTM) & 2" wheel spacers Can't wait! |
Windows are tinted, WeatherTech front and rear mats installed, and just installed the OEM front plate delete kit and Carriage Works lower grill IN THE DARK..lol
They were both pretty quick. Perfect fit on the grill. It arrived a little bent but easily bent back to form, very easy instal with clear instructions provided. The OEM front plate delete was a snap too, litterally. Reach in, squeeze the clips closest to the opening and pop that side off, then just pull the other side off, then pop the new one in place. You only need the plate side but they give you both. I switched out both just in case the plastic were to fade differently between sides. Obviously I took these pics in total darkness, so it's all I've got for now. Flash makes my race red beauty look orange. http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2814/8...394f398751.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8535/8...507e34f7b7.jpg I am ordering the CW upper grill tomorrow, so this will match nicely when it comes in, and more importantly it will protect the intercooler from gravel or road debris. Front plates are required in my state (CT), but I've never given anyone a ticket for that...and I don't know anyone who has. I think this cleans up the front end nicely (although now the ridiculous vanity plate I have on order will only be on the back....maybe that's a good thing...lol) |
Had my Line-X appointment in Waterbury CT this monday. It came out great and I was surprised how thick the coating actually was. Ran into a slight issue though.. the fitment of the tail gate was already so tight, especially in the center where the bottom of the gate and the door are closest, that when both the tail gate and bed were LineX'd the coating made them come in contact and made the latch bind on the left side. They quickly shaved down the end where the contact was occurring and it immediately resolved the issue. Looks great, very functional upgrade as in the first few days I'd have it I already scraped up the paint in the bed hauling building materials.
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8543/8...eddd964c3b.jpg (I had just washed the truck so you can see water in the bed) http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5462/8...699f61e6b9.jpg |
Installed my UnderCover Flex folding toneau cover today
Very easy installation with straight forward instructions, and appears to be a quality product. It was also packaged very well. Ordered on TruckAddOns.com for $680 (they price matched amazon). I love that it allows you to utilize almost the whole bed, and is very secure when flipped up. The prop rods lock into place and come greased well too. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8120/8...44488acd_c.jpg Well folded partially there are clips as shown to hold them in place, also seem pretty sturdy. Takes away from the clean look when it's closed all the way, but really not that noticeable. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8273/8...2987c20b_c.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7326/8...6415cb00_c.jpg Had to drill a 5/8 hole through the existing plastic plug, no biggie... but may get in the way if you are carrying something... should be out of the way for a bed full of 2x4s though.Tubing is pretty thick too, so I'm not worried about it getting cut. http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3826/8...80a9994e_c.jpg Finished product, love it! (The discoloration is just dust from the packaging. http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5453/8...89a0c924_c.jpg |
Looks great!

Definitely keeping the stock wheels for now, just going to space them out for the flares until I wear out the Pirelli's, then I'll level lift and go with 35's I think. Somebody told me they think "the truck looks very 80's with the neon red, stripes, and black wheels..." which I thought was kind of funny..I guess I see it. As for the Light bar, I'm going to be putting a 40" Rigid flood/spot behind the grill. Waiting on $ to order it... with a baby due in 18 days we'll see how money is doing lol |
Here's a better shot of the Carriage Works lower grill and OEM front plate delete...and my lovely lady 9 months prego on the porch :)

My black Carriage Works billet grill is in Canada getting stainless steel F O R D lettering mocked up and bolted on. Going PTM the lettering. Can't wait to get it back and installed! Should have the fender flared PTM and installed in the next week or two also.

Looking good!

Just heard from Kyle (1999f1504x4), he has finished making the stainless steel FORD lettering and has attached it to my black Carriage Works grill. Just got pics from him.

Can't wait to install it! Thanks Kyle! |
Ready to see it, how much was the grill did you order and ship to him?
|
Grill looks great can't wait to see the pictures on the truck.

Ordered the RK Sport Hood today from AutoAnything.com for $703 shipped with 15% discount coupon LOYALTY, and a Auto Spring 2.5"/3(1)" level lift from Auto Spring on ebay for $199 shipped.
Still waiting on getting the flares painted and installed. I'll probably wait now so that they can be painted with the hood and the lettering for the grill. https://www.f150forum.com/attachment...204_113218.jpg Going to PTM with the center of the hood and scoop black with matte clear coat. |
I just ordered;

beautiful, tastefully done. can't wait to see what gains are from the full race kit!

So I got the exhaust in the mail yesterday and it's beautiful. Before I start installing things though I had to satisfy my curiosity and get a base line dyno done.
Today I my way home from a Home Depot run, I stopped at Debaise Bros. Customs Cycles & HotRod shop which is right around the corner from my house and they ran it for me. (On their 224xLC Dyno) I wasn't sure what to expect, but I'm not overly impressed with the results. I haven't done much research to see what other people are getting stock, so I'll have to look around and see how this compares. Uncorrected Best Run RWHP 290.73, Best Run ft/lbs 301.57 Three Run Average RWHP 287.86 & 296.77 ft/lbs 8/16/13 81*F, 40%RH http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2880/9...e2d818ff_b.jpg - - - SAE Best Run RWHP 284.36, Best Run ft/lbs 294.88 Three Run Average RWHP 281.52 & 290 ft/lbs 8/16/13 81*F, 40%RH http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7378/9...e8c49955_b.jpg Still not bad for a 6 banger I guess. I will install the Full-Race Exhaust, drop in air filter, and intercooler, then put on about 300 miles and run it again, hopefully on a day with similar conditions to see what kind of power they free up, then I'll install the SCT 91 octane tune and run it... then we'll see if we can't find a better tune than the boxed tune... we have 93 at the pumps around here. |
waiting with baited breath on your post-mods dyno results!

Ran the 100ft drags for my first time ever at Waterford SpeedBowl tonight. My reaction times were atrocious during my 5 test and tune runs.. and my 100 ft times got progressively worse, I'm assuming due to the heat soaked intercooler- 3.069, 3.132, 3.176, 3.177, 3.207, 3.829 (2WD..oops) (Not in that exact order, but close.
So I put myself in the 3.06 bracket to be safe...because I thought no way would I beat it.. But after the drivers meeting, the sun had gone down and it was probably 10 degrees cooler.. truck had been sitting with the hood open for an hour, and I was one of the first few to run- Ran a 2.858 in the 100ft @ 36.24mph with a 0.280 RT. I was stoked! Of course that means I broke out of my bracket, and the other guy who I went way faster than technically one. Either way it was an awesome time and I highly suggest you try it if you have a local strip. (All runs done in 4WD LOCKED, save one) http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5520/9...5c9119e4_o.jpg http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5455/9...d1595c8a_o.jpg |
Alright so I went back for another baseline Dyno this morning. Much better than last time. All runs were done in 3rd gear, (can't complete a 4th gear run because you hit 100mph speed limiter). Ambient air temperature was 81*F with 49%RH. Dyno brake set at 25% (30 was too much and 20% wasn't enough). (On a 224xLC Dyno)
Standard Best Run RWHP 310.27 : Ft/Lbs 350.10 Average RWHP 305.07 : Ft/Lbs 346.23 http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7368/9...aa7fc192_o.jpg Uncorrected Best Run RWHP 306.15 : Ft/Lbs 345.58 Average RWHP 301.07 : Ft/Lbs 341.69 http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3716/9...6882480b_o.jpg SAE Best Run RWHP 302.63 : Ft/Lbs 341.45 Average RWHP 297.55 : Ft/Lbs 337.69 http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2846/9...f1aeb2a9_o.jpg Much better. |
When are all the goodies going on?
And check out the SoCal tunes, he could do some custom tuning for all of your mods. Thanks, Wes |
As soon as FR builds it and ships me the IC!

I like your style. Im getting a 13 Ecoboost in white. Hopefully everything goes through this weekend. Exactly what i would do. Cant wait to see the progress. SUBSCRIBED

Pulled my recirculating tube off the electronic BOV today... left the tube in place and just plugged it with a rubber firewall bung I had kicking around, wrapped it with some electrical tape... what a difference! Its so loud when it opens up. Not the loudest I've heard, but I was really imprssedd/surprised after barely being able to hear it before.
|
Also changed my order with Full Race to delete the TiAL BOV and hold the order until the 13‘ factory BOV compatible IC are available which will save some cash and maintain more factory components and the BOV sound. Installing the exhaust in the next few days.

Carriage Works black billet upper grill installation, with lettering by Kyle Patton.
I ordered a Carriage Works billet grill, and had it shipped directly to Kyle Patton in Canada. Kyle designs and laser cuts stainless steel lettering for current and older model fords. He can make pretty much any design I believe. I shipped him my grill so he could mock up and weld on mounting screws to the back. He did so and it came out great! http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7374/9...a20e931c_b.jpg http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2889/9...3f927012_b.jpg First you have to cut out your OEM grill. http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3762/9...e598f9d9_b.jpg Then dremel off all these tabs left behind... I'm sure it's worse on certain models due to the grill style like mine. http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5459/9...43279dcb_b.jpg You DO NOT have to obsess over getting it perfectly smooth and spend hours on it like I did...because when the grill is installed you can't see any of your work anyway... but if your like me you'll know it's there... and I'm a little OCD with details like that. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7344/9...fdaa8f83_b.jpg Finished product http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7286/9...fd126ced_b.jpg For comparison--- BEFORE http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7459/8...d57660b9_b.jpg AFTER http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7405/9...d1d72298_b.jpg http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2847/9...fb9204f4_b.jpg I'll be having the lettering either paint matched race red, flat black, or flat black with race red edging... probably the later... what do you think? |
Made a Sync wallpaper, CVMA (Combat Vets Motorcycle Association) themed. Came out pretty good. I made a few others too, and found a few more online.
I'll add them below full size so you can save it and upload it to your truck if you see one you like! Grill def gotta get pained red! Truck looks so sick!
|
Finally installed my Full-Race cat back stainless exhaust today.
First of all it came packaged very well in a large, thick cardboard box, with lots of those foam filled bags inside, NO PACKING PEANUTS... thank god...lol Getting the old one out was more of a pain than getting the new one in. Had to really pull hard and shake it back and forth to wiggle it out of the hanger grommets, which was nerve racking because I had the back of the truck up on a set of ramps I didn't trust so much. Removed the first resonator first, that comes out rather easy due to the flex pipe that comes right after it. Next you have to bend the flex pipe to get the hanger next to it out, as it opposes the next one down the line, making it impossible to pull the rest straight out. Once that's out its just a matter of pulling the rest of the exhaust toward the back of the truck and then snaking it out. I had the rear of the truck up on steel ramps, which gave plenty of clearance for the unbolting process, but once it came to trying to pull the rather large length of stock exhaust out, from tip to large muffler it got jammed up. Luckily I had a bottle jack handy which I placed between the frame and axle. Only needed a few more inches of clearance. FR has a installation Video Once the stock pipes were out the Full Race cat back was a breeze to install. Everything lined up and fit perfectly. It went in clean and looks awesome. It appears very well made, and VERY shiny...lol I left the plastic on the pipes (with holes on either end) during the install so I wouldn't get them all finger printed and greasy, then just pulled the plastic off before start up. I actually wish they offered a blacked out set instead, or at least a black tip. I might have to powder coat this one. Sounds good on start up, much deeper, but not excessively loud or ricer sounding. I took it for a little spin today and I love the sound. A nice deep tone on start-up under light acceleration. It does bark a bit with throttle blips or WOT under acceleration, but it's not obnoxious or "ricer" sounding. I haven't had it on the highway yet, so I'll update this after I have, and maybe try to make a short video to add. Anyone need a stock EcoBoost exhaust? http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7432/9...26d2a3db_b.jpg http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5523/9...699388e3_b.jpg http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5501/9...36b66c46_b.jpg http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5518/9...2e6ae387_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7402/9...a47e9be9_b.jpg Thank you everyone at Full Race! Now when is my new intercooler coming?! Can't wait. http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3697/9...30593dd4_o.gif |
Vids please. Lol. Was going to do a catless DP and the resonated Full race catback on my FX4 but I think I'm just going to do the non resonated full race and leave the stock y pipe. Don't think the performance difference would be too great.
Awesome truck |
Nice, I very much want that exhaust. Nice to hear a good review of it and interested in hwy and possibly towing noises. I too would want to paint black.
|
I dont know about anyone else but I would like to hear a video of the exhaust and the BOV! Been thinking about putting a duck call on mine lol.

"Carriage Works 44383 Black Bumper Grill" That's the model you want. I think they have it in raw aluminum or chrome too. Don't recall where I bought it, shopped around a bit for the best price. The upper grill is model 47163 |

AEM air filter installed.
Attempted to install the SCT TS tuner today after reading through the instructions, downloading the programs and updating the tuner itself (you'd think they'd ship it up to date...) I plugged it in and went through the steps that the directions outline. I double and triple checked to ensure I was doing everything correctly. All I could get was a screen that had 2 options, -Power off, and -Run Test... which when run just ran a diagnostic test of the LED lights, and then in red below it gave about 15 error messages. All of the menu pages just showed grayed out stop watch icons. I called SCT, and after going through a long phone menu...and then a half hour on hold...I talked to someone named Jose who quickly informed me that if I was seeing all those stop watch icons then the TS was malfunctioning and needed to be returned to SCT. Awesome. I called Full Race and spoke with Jon I believe, who was great. Said he'd email me a return label etc. asap, and send me a new TS as soon as they receive my busted one. I'd really like to have it tuned for the 20th when I race again... but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. Thanks a lot SCT... |
Hey! Awesome lookin truck! Was wondering if on the my touch backgrounds, if on the one with the skull thing in the middle yu could make one without it saying driver/passenger and without thelines above the words? Love that background you made.

Went back to the 100 FT drag races at Waterford Speedbowl tonight. Set a new fastest time for myself of 2.843 vs last time 2.858. I know not many people have heard of 100 ft drag races, but all we have in the area is a small oval track, so we have to make due with what we've got. This is a damn good time for a stock vehicle, nevermind a full size 4 door pick up. There are mustangs and beefed up hot rods doing 3+, and straight up drag cars doing 2.4.
http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3821/9...32408fb4_o.jpg Can't wait to see how I do with the 93 Octane tune from SCT... if they ever send me a NON DEFECTIVE unit back... as the one I got was DOA. |
Any new updates onthe truck?!

Nice build so far! Looking forward to watching the progress.

I went down to Carlisle PA last weekend for the big fall swap meet. Picked up a fresh set of OEM Raptor side steps for $450, installed them on the spot, then after I had trouble selling my stock ones I traded them for a vending machine for my man cave.

Also bought some black touch up paint for doing the edges of my tail lights.

so what kind of gains did you see after the exhaust install? I am thinking of just doing the exhaust for now on my 2011

Love the truck, clean build!

I want a freaking vending machine for my room. Ice Cold Drinks.

Finally got my FR intercooler with TiAL, and BBK throttle body. I've had the SCT LiveWire TS for quite a while, but the it was DOA when I got it and had to be sent back... when I eventually got it back, the race season was over and I was nearing my 5000 miles service so I decided to wait. Programed it with the boxed 93 octane tune but haven't driven it much, definitely noticing harder shifts at WOT though, and it's neat to be able to see the boost gauge etc (showing just over 16psi...not sure if that's accurate..). I'll hopefully be installing the IC soon, but my truck won't fit in my garage, and it's been really F-ing cold here lately. I'll post pics and get it on the Dyno stat.
The intercooler came extremely well packages from FR. I have a massive garbage bag full of packing peanuts...my daughter really enjoyed them...lol http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3705/1...0c8a9143_o.jpg |
LOL! I think they sent you a baby!

This is highest I've seen. We'll see if the Full-Race intercooler free's up some more. |

I've added Full-Race Motorsports Exhaust, FMIC with TiAL BOV, a BBK throttle body, and an SCT LiveWire tuner utilizing the boxed 93 Octane tune. Best runs produced 513 Ft Lbs and 368 RWHP. Not bad for a little 6 cylinder eh? |
Now you just need to hit up Mike at 5star for a custom tune to really capitalize on all the engine mods and I bet you add a ton more power.
Lots of power there though, looks good. Wes |

Love the hood. Looking mean!

No offense, but never been a fan of the FORD grills on non-Raptors.
Do love your stickers. |

Stopped by the dealership to find out what my truck was worth on trade...drove a 2018 XLT SCREW 3.5 EB with the 10spd. Wow. Truck felt so light and agile compared to my 13', and sport mode felt faster than my tuned 13'. My factory warranty was about 1000 miles from being up, i had 3 warning lights on the dash (traction, hill decent, and brakes) due to some sensor that was NOT the abs sensor that the scanner said it was, also several body work issues from wear and tear, not to mention spots where the paint was beginning to bubble with rust starting beneath from stone chips etc. Knew that a year or 2 down the road it was going to look bad.
Lastly, not sure of the cause, but when I go WOT above 3500rpm was getting a real bad stutter/misfire. Having recently seen the pics posted by FullRace of the inside of a head with no catch can made me wonder if my valves and plugs were all gummed up or something. Nearly 60k on it. Anyway, the dealership probably didn't take it WOT on their test drive. They gave me 27k toward the used shadow black 18 XLT 4x4' for 33k. My red 13' had every option. The new truck is pretty bare. No rear window, sunroof, tow package, leather, console, screen, Nav, Sony, etc. To sweeten the deal the dealership let me keep my BFG KO2s with 5k miles on them and 17' FX4 wheels, so I'll be doing a level and throwing those on once the factory tires are shot. I already really miss my race red though :( |

And so it begins all over again......congrats on the new ride.
