Great write up and pics. I just did them all today and found that the rear pads were completely shot with the front pads still having about 70% left. I do live in the country, travelling gravel and dirt roads often while pulling trailers, which I suspect helped add to the rear pad wear.

Excellent post. I'm not trying to knock it, just some friendly advice...if you're every instructing or teaching somebody how to do something, don't use the word "should". Replace it with "will". Whether it's the case or not, it will convey either a lack of confidence in what you know or that you're not really sure if it will or not. But like I said before, GREAT job!

I got new tires on my truck today and they informed me that I needed front pads & rotors! I was warned about my pads awhile ago & I planned to replace them on my own. I told the rep this & he warned me that the rotors are not the standard rotors, and that it would be a tough job for me to undertake. I was skeptical as he walked me over to a chart/display trying to illustrate what he meant. He said that it wasn't a traditional floating rotor. So here I am, researching the process & I don't see anything mentioned about strange front rotors. So I have two questions:

1-Was this guy just trying to get my business or was he thinking of the heavy duty 7 lug rotors? Found out through more research that he probably thought my truck was a 2wd, which apparently has special front rotor/hubs.

2-OP, how are those replacement rotors holding up? I see you went with the ceramic pads but can anyone speak to their premium semi metallic pads on performance & brake dust compared to stock?

Even having a 4x2 or 4x2 7 lug isn't insurmountable. I happen to have a 7 lug 4x2. Check out Centrics, they sell a replacement 2 piece hub kit for the 04-08 ones with the 1 piece oem hubs (6 or 7 lug). It converts them to a 2 piece hub like what was once available, using the 4x4 rotors. I have a set sitting on the shelf for the day I have to change out my front hubs so I know they're available.

I was told by my mechanic that changing new rotors required new spindle nuts as well o.O. Any of you did the same?
