SICKS NINE

So I moved my CD player out of my old dodge and into my 99 f150. Using a simple wiring harness from walmart and my old alpine harness I was able to make it all work together. here's some pictures and a video about it:

separated the harness' and cleaned the sticky stuff off of the wires with alcohol.

connected the wires with wire nuts, to the alpine harness:

looks like a clean install with the heat shrink tubing. always better than crimp connectors and less bulky

You'll want to redo that with heat shrink tube instead of wire nuts. Wire nuts fall off and start fires. Remember one of those wires is always hot key or no key. Wire nuts are okay in a house, because a house rarely vibrates. They should never be used in a car.

Usually you can get a pack of these from the hardware store/home improvement center. Cut each one in 1/2.

Slide over wires on one connector like so. Sorry, no solder pics/guide.

Use a heat source and shrink them down, a heat gun works. Pow, right in the kisser. This will not fail and is SAFE.

Can anyone tell me how to hook back up my steering wheel controls with after market? I have another harness with the red and white connectors and I think a blue wire. Do I need to hook that up to my small harness in my dash?

I hate to bump this thread to ask a dumb question, but do your steering wheel buttons still light up even though you don't have them connected to the stereo anymore? Not sure if the bulbs are being fed from somewhere else or not.

I don't mind ditching the wheel controls with my aftermarket unit I'm going to install, but it would be nice to still have the illumination at night, purely for aesthetics.

I'm not 100% sure. I don't use much of that side of the controls anyways. I know my cruse still lights up.
