I really want to install an aftermarket radio for Bluetooth and to play my phone however a quote I recieved from a local shop wants a ridiculous amount of money and I've looked up steps on how to do it and it seems simple except for the part where I'd have to solder the wiring harness? Why is there not a simple plug in for the new radio? Looking at getting a double din non touchscreen pioneer.

If you go thru Crutchfield it has the wiring harness that simply plugs in to the factory pigtail(s). they even allow you to enter the vehicle and it pulls up exact fit units

They should have wire harness for your truck... Its color coded so is easy to crimp the connectors

You Need the following:
-Wire Cripper
-Crimp Nuts
-Electrical Tape.

I originally installed a cam above the license plate, but hated the view. I switched out that mess for an oem tailgate handle cam. I didn't have the oem cam harness, so I bought a rearview a/v cable with trigger wire off of amazon and spliced it up. Works and looks great!

Do you have radio SWC (steering wheel controls)? If so, you will want to get Axxess ASWC-1 so you can retain them

Default Rear view camera

I got a replacement rear view mirror with the camera inputs. The one I got came from ebay used, so I paid little for it. I went this way because A: I didn't have any buttons, etc on the mirror that I would lose, and B: I intended to install a second camera to put on the back of our box trailer and have it in use whenever the trailer is connected. This way it didn't tie up my head unit when pulling the trailer. So far, haven't gotten around to doing the trailer camera though. I installed the backup camera on top of the bumper above the license plate so it wouldn't get hit by the tailgate, and put some metal covers over it just in case. I can just see the ball at the bottom of the view when it's attached. I really like it, but could use some brighter backup lights to really see well after dark. Went with a Sony head unit with Bluetooth, aux input, etc from sonicelectronix.com .like their prices and customer service too. Cameras I got from Amazon.
Hope this helps

When the rear mirror comes installed, the wiring can be accessed in the passenger pillar. But since it wasn’t you could probably splice whenever you want to run some wires up to the mirror, hope you also got the mirror wiring connector with your purchase. Since it’s going to be a temp camera on your trailer, have you thought about using a wireless setup like this?
Esky Wireless Color Video Transmitter and Receiver for Vehicle Backup Camera / Front Car Camera https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00RVIZQMG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_TTzBAbBEJC9FMMy old man used this set up on his Chevy on a trailer. He tapped into the backup lights for the cam power, and the rear view lights + up in the cab.

I ran my wires through the driver's side pillar, and ended up leaving the compass box hanging by the wires temporarily, for several months now without properly securing it. Not sure off hand the part number, but Esky was the brand I used on the truck bumper. Happy with it. And yes the mirror came with everything. I am just not a fan of the wireless setups. I helped install one, and could never get signal from the cab of the truck to the back bumper. Probably better ones out there than that one though. I still haven't figured out exactly what to use for a connector between truck and trailer for the camera. It needs to be something waterproof when in use and not, but also allow for a jumper to activate the trailer camera which also deactivates the truck camera. I have some amphenal military spec metal connectors they were throwing out at work, but they seem a little bit of overkill maybe. When the time comes I'll figure it all out. Sorry a bit wordy.

Something like this should work in that scenario, or just a simple trailer connector with a cap?
