When i removed my cluster, I had to pull the **** off the light switch and then put it on upside down and then twist it past the past the headlight position. Then it just fell right out.

I just finished the repair. It took me a little over an hour from start to finish. One thing that bothered me was that the wire leading to this bad connection (in the wire ribbon) was discolored, probably from heat. Also, I couldn't visibly see the crack in the solder at the connection (probably too small to see without a magnifier). I re-heated the connection and added a little bit of solder. It did the trick and works excellent!

I used a small flathead screwdriver from the bottom to pop out my headlight switch. Here's a pic of what a 2000 looks like behind it. Thanks for posting this repair. Worked great.

now im getting ready to do this repair on my 04 heritage. could someone give me a little more detail on what exactly im soldering? is it just that one single dot that you pointed to? it being whats reffered to as a "cold solder" you just re heat it and add a small amount of solder correct? your not connecting any two dots right?

correct sir, its actually cracked down near the bottom so just reheating to remove the crack and it works like a charm, you only solder that one dot.

mine still works perfectly by doing this

I did this tonight. A few parts of the dash are a real PITA but so far so good. Im new to soldering and my bead looked kind of grey, rather than shiny. But it works for now so ill keep you posted.
