Does all 97-03 f150's have the digital odometer? My 97 has the manual dial type odometer that stopped working, and really just wondering if the previous owner replaced it stupidly. Which would make a lot of since.

No. I messed up when I named this thread. 97-98's have the analog style and 99+ have the digital. I think there's a few threads in the 97-03 section about fixing the analog odometer.

Default Odometer still not working after soldering repair

First off, thanks for a great explanation. I took the panel out and had a friend professionally repair the solder joints. When I put it back it, is still not showing up. Any ideas?

I recently bought the truck so I dont know much history. it is usually never one, but I have seen it light up once.

Any help is appreciated.

The only reason it shouldn't be showing up is if you didn't hook all the connectors back up all the way.

I took it all apart again, made sure the circuit board was pushed in tight to the housing, and that all the harnesses were plugged in as tight as possible. It is till not getting and illumination of the odometer.

Any ideas?

There is a local guy on craigslist that claims he fixes this issue. I told him I already did the soldering and he still wants to look at it. I am trying to decide if it is worth paying someone to look into it further or just replace the cluster. I see lots of cluster assemblies on eBay for $50-80. If I get a new cluster, will the odometer info transfer from the internal system of the truck or do I have to re-program it?

I would greatly appreciate any thoughts on the matter.

I really don't know what's wrong man. I'm pretty sure the miles go with the cluster so if you got a new cluster it would have different miles.

Thank you so much for this fix! The only thing I didn't like about my truck was the odometer not working all the time and a rattle I had. About three weeks ago I got the ambition to find my rattle and pulled the odometer out at the same time and had it soldiered and it hasn't gone out since. Thank you so much!

So I had the "local expert" from craigslist look at it. He found that some of the contacts had been soldered together at some point which produced a short in the circuit. It cannot be repaired. So it looks like I am buying a new cluster and getting the dealership to flash it for me.

Thanks for the help though. I appreciate you making this thread. I am jealous mine was not as easy of a fix.
