I looked at mine again and still didn't see a spring. Still trying to find another one somewhere.

I am able to grab it from the bottom to pull it out and it works just fine

I just thanked a guy with one post, from 10-09-2013. Still, very helpful.

To add to his pictures - you can actually reach your fingers up to the two retaining hooks from underneath and pull them down to release. No tools required. They'll catch again on the edge of the dash face so you have to release them twice.

And if you move a bit of grease from the rails to the center toggle bumps the operation will be smoother.
