The nice thing about it now all you have to do is grab hold of the cable and pull.

I finally took a look at the seats today and did the mod in a few minutes with items I had lying around. Everything works perfectly. I didn't want to make a career out of it and got it done in no time at no cost. The hardest, longest part was drilling the holes through the releases. I added a cotter-pin to the hole, a cord from that to a little handle made from a coat hanger and a safety pin to hold it in position behind the headrest. Simple, it works and no one will see it as I don't plan on going back there too often. I plan on mounting a ham radio back there. Here is a picture I took with the first one done and the parts ready to go for the other side.

I wasn't aware that this was possible. Not sure if I would fold it down often, but it will make putting the rear seat covers on a whole lot easier.

I tried that this week-end.

at first, I had the seat bottoms all the way up ("locked"), and I was able to lift the pin for the seat backs really easily with one finger. Of course, the seat back wont fold down if the bottoms are locked, if that makes sense.

So, the next try, I had the bottoms up, but not locked, and the pin was a total b**ch, not moving!

So, I just tried it again. It seems, on my truck anyway, that having the bottoms all the way up makes it much easier to unlock the pin In other words: bottoms up, unlatch the pin, unlock the bottoms, and fold everything down.

Just a suggestion for those who dont want to add a handle / cable / whatever to it!

Here's mine (2010 Lariat).



My drill bit kept slipping off the little post that sticks out the side, so I drilled down through the metal covering the tip, and hooked a 1/16 cable through the latch where the spring connects:



The other end (nice of Ford to put that little lip on the front of the headrest to hide all this):



There's quite a bit of room back there. I stowed away a tool box, rain gear, light sticks, flares, and a first aid kit:



Thanks guys! But for this thread, I wouldn't have even known the seats fold down!

Thank you for this. Doing it right now on my Raptor. A little tip I picked up from the pics in this thread - the mechanism is close to the headrests on the outside. Fairly close to the top. You should spend too much time fishing for it with your hand.

The other tips here are important - you need to raise the seat bottom so the sest back separates from the back wall enough for you to fit your hand. If you lock the seat bottom in the upright position, remember to unlock it when you find and pull the pin, otherwise the seat back ain't coming down.

This forum has been very helpful to me over the past year and a half (including this post), so I thought I'd join and share my version of how I made the lifting nub easily accessible (very inexpensively) and how to easily line up the pin to get the seat back to latch back up. First, I just used a zip tie attached to the pin with a dab of glue on the end so it doesn't slip off... Costs almost nothing, doesn't stick up far enough to be an eyesore, and best of all.... works great. Next, there is a little paint mark on the slot that the pin lives in (from the factory). Just line up the pin with that mark, and the seatback pops right on it. Hope someone finds this useful.
