Default Big handed no-screwdriver

Just adding a little of my own personal flavor after removing my rear seat today with the goal of finding the factory keypad code. I have pretty large hands myself and was having trouble reaching the clips. Here's how i finally did it:

On the driver side, i used my left hand against the C pillar to lift the seat back, then wedged my right hand in the same location high enough palm up to hook my thumb around the clip, then jiggling the seat got it to release. On the other side, I had to use the opposite hands... right to make room and left wedged up behind the seat. I could NOT get my hands behind the seat in ANY location except right up against the C pillars.

Also, i only removed the plastic cover for the middle seatbelt, not the Torx pulley. Since i wasn't removing the seat, just folded it forward enough to peel back the carpeting and view the BSM.

I tried to remove mine to install a new rear slider window, and after getting frustrated I gave up and was able to swap the window without removing the set. Good write up though.

Many thanks for the write-up, arcuhtek!
I have tried this two other times on separate occasions, by trying to shimmy my hand behind the seat. Both times, I got beyond frustrated, and gave up.
I tried your way and had the seat off in 5 minutes! AWESOME.

Default 2010 F150 4x4 supercab backrest release

Thanks for the helpful advice found here. I had quite a struggle because of the tightness of the upholstery and all the foam padding under it interfering with getting the screwdriver positioned for release action. Fortunately I have a massive screwdriver style trim tool with a bent split end and by wedging that in place on top of the seat carrier just in front of the retaining clip unit and heaving upward I could jam the upholstery out of the way with rolls of paper towels. Then it was just a matter of clearing excess padding, positioning the screwdriver, pulling out the lifting towel rolls, and pulling down on the seat back.

The one in my truck doesn't have the older style sharp metal locator (which rips things up) which made handling the seat back a lot less trouble.

Default Need to remove seat bottom?

Nice write up.

So, do I need to remove the seat bottoms prior to the screwdriver step? I am mechanical but cannot see how to get the angle you descibe to press the plastic latch without this.

Default Back seat help

I don't want to take my back seat out. My subwoofers have stopped working and I just want to drop the top of the back seat so that I can get to the amp to check the fuse. Does anybody know how to do this? It is a 2009 F150 Platinum.

It took me quite a while the 1st time. I ended up having my kid put his arm back there. Once it was out, I removed the clips knowing I would take it out again. Now all I do is remove the seat belt attachment and I am done.

Default Thanks

Hey thanks man! I got it figured out though. I took it back to the shop and had them do it since they just put it in. They showed me an easy way. The amp is able to slide under the sit so I don't even have to mess with the seat at all. The amp slides under the seat and then you just turn it up right and it stays in place.
