Quick question. Is there a need for a new temp sensor? Shouldn't there be a way to tap into the stock one or something?

This is a very good question and Im hoping someone can answer this. I've ordered my efans off of ebay from skipwhite and Im not looking forward to installing the temp sensor they have.
By the way thanks to all who have contributed to this thread! it has been very informative for me for this modification.

I don't know of how you would use the stock sensor. Because you need a controller to operate the fans and thy have a sensor probe wired to it already.

FYI- 01 f150 5.4l has a l nice key-on power to tap into off the cruise control unit. It is however fused to 15amps. The Hayden fan controller I got pulls just under 20 so I put a 20amp fuse in it and I'm watching the temp of that circuit. The install went great otherwise and the fans are very quiet.

Here is a shot of the connector and the terminal I used to tap from.

How are the Hayden fan controllers? I have read some reviews on them and some seem pretty bad.

I have been using a Hayden controller for almost a year with no problems.

This whole set up is for the 5.4L for the 04-08 F150? I have an 06 f150 XLT 4x4 with the 5.4l. I know my way around an engine compartment pretty well, but have never installed electric fans. Was going to skip them but this post makes them seem very do-able. So my question is just, this is the 04-08 f150 5.4l right?
Thanks.

I got my 16" efans off of ebay for $25 each brand new. they came from upstate new york to socal in just 4 days so my hat is off to the seller for great service.

Here is the fans installed on the back of the radiator with the bulk of the wiring done.

Here is a view from above to show all the extra room i have now. having trouble changing belts is a thing of the past.

This bundle of wires orriginally went to the stock fan clutch. I used the possitive ignition wire in the bundle for the 12v switched source my controller required. This way the fans only can run when the power is on.

I got my Delta Current Controller off line as well for around $120, dont remember the exact price. Its mounted on the passenger side with double sided tape.

I didnt want to tap into the ac wires all the way below the truck so i crawled under there just to see what color they were. one was greyish with a black stripe, the other was all block. i followed the line back up near the valve covers and opened up the harnes a little so i could find those wires. i tested the grey/black one first and that turned out to be the right one so i tapped it with the blue wire in my kit. once i go back with some electrical tape, no one will ever know i tapped any wires and itll look stock again.

Here is what it looks like with that shroud cap back in place. I like having it on because it hides all the wires and looks cleaner.

i took my g/f for a test drive. i was just driving around slow in the neighborhood to see how it felt down low and before i made any comments my g/f said she could tell there was a huge difference. i felt it too. when slowing down from driving speed you notice a difference as well. the truck seems to just keep going instead of feeling like its slowing down right away. in the end i paid less then $200 which is half what any aftermarket company charges and the DC controller is top of the line, you cant even compare it to the controllers that come with other kits. Hp gains were very noticeable down low which is great for daily driving, towing and improved MPGs
I got my e-fans almost done but I am having issues with my AC compressor randomly turning off and on now and am wondering if the wiring harness that used to plug into the fan clutch that is no longer there is needing to complete a circuit or something? I am also having a hard time finding the AC compressor positive wire. The pictures you had uploaded are no longer showing up. Any help would be much appreciated. Pictures and wiring diagram would help

Sounds like you have the power wire to the fan, from the relay, feeding the fan and compressor. Easiest way to find the power wire to the compressor is to take a test light, probe one of the wires at the compressor, turn switch on at dash. Which ever one lights the light, is the power wire. I've long since sold the truck and forgotten where my schematic is, but, on the controller, there should be a green? Wire that is the aux. input. That should go to the power wire on the compressor so the fan kicks on anytime the compressor is on. So to explain the power flow, battery to relay, relay to ground, ignition to relay, ignition power to controller, temp sender one wire to ground, other wire to ground of relay. This will complete the circuit when truck is up to temp. Then as I said. One wire from compressor to aux input on controller. Relay and controller should have come with diagrams. Take your time, and you'll get through this. Hope it helps
