Well, I finally finished it up tonight. Made it without any issues, other than #8 being a hassle to get to. So, the truck has been idling rough for over a year now, and I have changed everything I could think of except the plugs, COPs, and injectors. I was really hoping these plugs would fix it, but it is still idling rough. Anybody have any suggestions on what else to look for? It's not throwing any codes, it just idles rough.

So.. you had a rough idle and you changed everything but the plugs/COP's and injections. What did you change to clear the rough idle ? What brand plugs did you just install ? Did you install new boots and springs ? Did you clean the COP contacts ? Have you cleaned the throttle body and MAF sensor ?

I never could fix the rough idle. I bought the truck 2.5 yrs ago and it was running fine for about the first few months, then I noticed it began idling a little rough. Then it would randomly die while sitting still at idle sometimes, so I started researching what it could be and changing everything people suggested. It's been a while, but here's a list of what I can remember I changed:

1.Entire throttle body
2.MAF sensor
3.Throttle position sensor (I think its called)
4.VCT solenoids
5.Fuel sensor that's mounted to the underside of the bed over the spare tire

After I changed all of this, it quit dying, but it still idled rough. Then, every now and then, I would get a code that said Bank 2 was running lean, which was about 1.5-2 yrs ago. I've been meaning to change the fuel pressure sensor to see if that stopped it, but I haven't had another code thrown since that happened back then. My new plugs are the Motorcraft 515 like everyone else uses. I didn't change any boots or springs on anything, but I did inspect and clean the coils and re lubed with dielectric grease. Also, when it first started to idle rough back then, I had a friend of mine, who is a certified mechanic at a dealership, flush the entire fuel and intake system with the stuff they use at the dealerships.

NOTE: I also noticed that the Evaporative Emissions hose from the purge valve to the intake is crumbling apart, but I haven't found anywhere that has them. I'm thinking maybe that's causing a vacuum leak. It doesn't look cracked anywhere, it just looks like its crumbling apart on the outside. Here's a link to another thread on here that had the same issue: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...crumbling.html

A clog where? And, I've been trying to find a diagram of all the vacuum hoses, so I can inspect them, but Google is not giving me any good ones. Do you happen to have a good one I can look at?

Ok, so a little update on mine. Over the past few weeks I've changed the plugs (Motorcraft 515), coil boots and springs, and just had the oil changed 2 days ago with Motorcraft 5W20 Senthetic with the Motorcraft oil filter. I also added 7 oz of Seafoam to my oil after the change to hopefully get rid of some of the sludge that's probably caked up inside my cam phasers. Now, it seems to tick that wonderful diesel sound a lot louder than it did before. I'm confused. Maybe, I don't have enough oil pressure getting to the phaser to allow them to work properly?

Thumbs up Thanks!

I've been having anxiety just thinking about changing the spark plugs on my 2008 F-150. So my truck finally hit 100K last week and all week I've been going back and forth between paying an arm & leg to have the dealer do it or do it myself. With your instructions I did it all in 4 hours and no broken plugs!!!! I took my time like you said and cracked it a little and just let the PB and carb cleaner do the work. I came back an hour later and just slowly backed them out and woohoo all 8 came out nicely. A big thanks again for your detailed steps. I am no longer afraid to change them out.
