Im about to replace plugs and coil packs on my 08 lariat and really wished I would have done the plugs when i bought the truck with 30,000 miles.(not sure if they are original or not) I now have 143,000 and just started running rough and not expecting an easy job.

Just wondering which plugs, coil packs and tools are reccomended now? And best places to buy them. Always looking to save a buck but dont mind paying a little more for better products.
I will hold off ordering the lilse tool till i see if any break. It can sit for awhile since i have other vehicles to use.

Thanks for any advice

Do you have the new designed heads in your 08 ? if so, plug change is normal...

I think mine was a month or 2 before the change.

Check your engine build date.. sticker on the valve cover ... not truck build date. Engine’s built after 10/09/07 have the redesigned heads and use SP-509 one price plugs. you can also tell which motor you have by the color of the COP boots... old - black boots. new-brown boots.

Thanks. I'll check that out. I think I went by the Vin number when I checked long ago.

Black boots and the date on valve cover sticker is 10/02/07

Lucky me!

From what I can tell , I'm in need of new vtc solenoids right now and mine doesn't have the tabs on the seals to be able to remove without pulling valve covers.

I changed my spark plugs in my 2006 Ford F-150 XLT 5.4L 3V last year in March with 87,000 miles (well, I did 6, and did the other two on the right rear last month at 96,000 miles) and didn't break a single one. I ran a bottle of Seafoam in the tank before doing the spark plugs. On the day of, I warmed the engine up first for maybe 15-20 minutes. On the front four, I used an impact wrench, but it was too big for the back four. So, I used a 24" 1/2" ratchet wrench, turning them about a 1/8 to 1/4 turn at a time. For what its worth, I followed FordTechMakuloco's advice on removing the plugs.

To those of you who managed to break a plug (or all of them) what were you doing? I was being gentle with them in general.

All the spark plugs. That one particular plug is clean because I took some sandpaper to it.

New member introduction completed in "Introductions"
.
I'm a very recent buyer of a one owner a 2007 5.4L with 27,000 miles (Build date 5/07). I'm going to change the plugs and I understand that there are one piece plugs available to replace the two piece plug design. I've searched this forum and others, but I'm confused as to what plugs are one piece.

is this a one piece plug - SP-546

Would you guys be neighborly and list the one piece spark plugs available with part number.
