I’m running to the pick and pull right now to try a switch. Figured I’d try a used one before spending $80 for a new one.
That will work, I have disconnected from the solenoid and used a vacuum pump and they disengaged and held for several minutes before I called it good.

I keep circling back to how weird it is that it unlocks if I pull the vacuum line at the check valve to the engine and and reconnect. Maybe I’ll get a motorcraft solenoid. I’m completely lost now. Seems like I’ve tried everything that can be tried other than ditching Dorman.

I know you were, and I was as well, hoping that would take care of it. Geez! What's puzzling to me is why you have power thru the connector at all times. I Did a search, google, on just what a GEM does, and didn't come up with anything worthwhile.
I wish someone would jump in here and add something to this.
I'm wondering if you would still have power if you just disconnected the switch? That's a far shot though.
I have to ask, but don't want you think I'm making fun, but is that checkvalve installed correctly? If you didn't pull it, I'd think it's in right. Just an FYI, the white side of it should be on the solenoid side, and black towards the engine.
Working in the heat is never fun, relax and have a cold one, it'll get resolved.

I just ordered a motorcraft solenoid. The more I started thinking about it the more I wanted to come back to the solenoid. It’s almost as if it’s not “strong” enough to move the plunger under the pressure of the vacuum. Once it arrives I’ll be sitting on 2 Dormans so maybe I’ll take one apart to see what’s going on in there. Just for kicks and giggles.

IIRC, there is also a relay on the driver side fender well in a small box, I think one of two relays in that box, that controls the solenoid. It itself is controlled by the switch. It should be down near the ABS control module (will have all the brake lines running into/out of it). You may want to check that.
