On another note, I bought some MAF cleaner also but I dont know where it is located.

I read on an earlier post on this thread on how to find the tb. That person was saying the maf is on the opposite end right next to the air filter. I dont see it. I do have an S&B intake, tho but damn, where's my maf???

Default Holy crap!

I just finished cleaning the throttle body and MAF on my 04 F150 5.4 (180k mi) using the directions above...The difference in throttle response, idle, and power are amazing!
I have lurked here for a while, and used the forum to diagnose and fix several minor problems, but I have to say THANK YOU to the original poster in this thread and all the rest of you guys.
I had become used to the idle fluctuations, and "lag" in the throttle, but recently it started to shut off at redlights and stop signs. This seemed worth a shot, and the results are tremendous. Thirty minutes and $15 made my truck run like new.

Thanks for this great post! I cleaned my K&N FIPK, made sure not to oil too much, cleaned MAF and she's running great. No more rough idle while stopped. This is my first F150 and first post on the boards. Looking forward to cleaning the throttle body next.

Sorry about the late reply, the red circle is where your MAF is plugged into your intake tube.

Default Thank you all

Thanks everyone for all your guidance and patience explaining how to do this. I just did mine today and I got to tell you what a difference. My truck is running so much better and she has a spring in her step that she hasn't had in a long while. I uploaded some before and after pics and the difference is night and day.

I'm thinking of cleaning mine this weekend. I don't have any problems with low or rough idle, but the one issue I am having is a sporadic lag or hesitation in the throttle response usually at or around 2-2500 rpms and sometimes when accelerating from a stop. Does this sound like an issue that could be caused by a dirty TB? Also I bought a can of TB and Carb cleaner from NAPA, it's their brand, hoping it's safe to use. Thanks for this instructional post, very helpful!

I really appreciate you taking the time to do this write up. It is amazing how much gunk comes out of there. Idle problems fixed, throttle response improved, and maybe a slight increase in mpg. MAF next time I have a free moment.

So I was reinstalling my TB and I was plugging in the driver side connector I didn't hear a click to let me know it was secure. I insured the red tab was out completely before installing. I thought it was secured and pushed in the red tab. But it wasn't.

I was gentle in removing it and don't see any broken tabs or bumps.

Anybody have this happen?

I can reach in and just slide it off so I'm sure it will vibrate off in time
