Please tell me if I'm missing something, but I've used liquid Kiwi sole edge black on my plastic door handles, bumper and mirror parts for years. It lasts 2-3 years and is easy to apply. Forgot where I learned this trick.

So all you need is paint? No primer? I am going to do this to all my plastics.

I didn't use primer at all, just 4 coats of black, and no clear for me, wanted that contrast against the body paint.

Some elbow grease, "black again exterior trim restorer", it works pretty good, it last some months so far. not perfect, but it blends it right.

I plan to do the rest on my trim such as the handles and rear bumper since I know the paint actually works and gets rid of the faded black grayish look.

gotta agree...except i used the dollar store paint..buck a can..did every piece of plastic on the truck, even the dash..been over a year and looks perfect still...plus at a buck a can if something does start to fade you can hit it with another coat for way cheaper than polish or armor all..

I'm with the OP on this one. I've never done it on my Fords (they haven't needed it) but, I've been doing it on my bikes for years. The key is to sneak up on the part at an angle slowly until you see the plastic start to turn and then chase/push the darkened area around until you cover the entire area. Here's a before/after pic of how it worked on my bike.
