I'd like to do this, but don't want them looking like crap in a year or after a few trips down a gravel road.
I sold this truck in 2014 and they still looked great. I had not even considered doing them again at that point.

So yes, do it. Well worth the effort.

I was able to pull the fenders back and use a screwdriver to push in on these clips

You want to push from right to left so it starts to pull out, then press on the other side of the clip and it will release. Work your way around the fender. Took me maybe 15 minutes to get all 4 fenders off the truck.

And they needed a painting quite badly

I used Krylon SUPERMAXX and its holding up great.

Do you have an after pics?

Looking back this is definitely well worth the effort and the re-paint seemed to hold up better than the factory plastic.

I'll get some tomorrow.

I almost bought new flares but then I thought what the hell, $5 in paint and a few minutes of time just might save me the expense of new flares. If it fails, then oh well, it was worth it. But it turned out great.

I had tried some back to black plastic restore but it only helped for a few weeks at a time and I think ultimately it made them fade even more.

They look totally original. Texture is even spot on.

Great thread, good spring time afternoon chore .

I was going to fit large pieces of thin cardboard or brown packaging paper around the edges, then gently lift and slide in behind the moldings when I paint them, but I like this removal idea too.
