How to paint your exhaust tips
Well since I'm in the process of de-chroming my truck I decided that I would try and paint my exhaust tips before they got put on.
I bought two 4 inch by 22 inch Magnaflow stainless steal 15 degree rolled tips (pic one).
I then sanded the them with 320 grit sand paper (pic two).
I then sanded the tips throughly till they were good and scuffed up (pic three).
Then I took Rust-Oleum Self Etching Primer and gave three good coats to each tip (pics four and five).
I then took VHT High Heat engine paint and painted two light coats and one medium coat and let dry for three hours (pic six).
Finally I followed the directions on the can of VHT and baked the tips at 250 for 30 minutes, let cool for 30 then baked again at 400 for 30 and cool for another 30. I was unable to do the final process of baking at 600 for 30 due to the fact that my oven didn't go that high. The can states that you can do the same baking process on the vehicle so I felt that the last step would be taken care of while on my truck.
Here's what the tips look like on my truck. I've had them on for about a week , haven't noticed any chips. Let me know what you think.

I just straight sprayed that stuff on to all visible exhaust tubing, especially the one near the wheels. Its been pelted by fast gravel mud and dirt and no problems, i didnt use primer, i just pressure washed it all, i dont even think i got all the dirt off. I think yours is probably indestrusctable. And i can drive my truck for hours and go back and hold my exhaust tip. They dont get hot.
