what gear did you pull with? i like to watch my instant mpg while towing to find the proper gear for the best mpg. do not use cruise control, i get better mpg with an educated foot.

Towing 10K lbs: Check
Oversize aggressive tires: Check
Probably hasn't re-calibrated speedo for said tires: Check
Truck leveled: Check
No WDH: Check

Yep, you got all the things going for you that gets you that bad fuel mileage.

Do you understand how aerodynamics work? Your wood "mod" does nothing... Sorry.

Surprised 80mph wasn't a contributing factor as well. He almost had the whole gauntlet.

Seems like you just get bad mpg in general. I towed my 5x12 utility with 4 moto bikes, four dudes in the cab,and 3/4 cord of wood. Plus generators, tables, camping gear etc. Prob around 5k in extra weight,I got 15.2 on the 8hr round trip. LMS 91 tow tune. We were ripping the whole way, no freeway all highway up the Oregon coast 50-75 mph. I did the same trip last year in my 2009 Taco, prob 1k lighter load, she struggled power wise and got 11mpg. F150 had power to spare!

It wouldn't maintain 6th, so I limited it to 5th, but it did drop to 4th at any little rise in the road. I prefer cruise control, wouldn't own a truck without it.

The POS WDH hardly did a thing, no matter how much tension I put on the bars. It's the s*** springs in the back of the 1/2 ton that can't handle the load. Not only does this truck need a WDH, it needs a set of air bags. And sway bars.

If I had my '03 or '07 Cummins, I would have done 80 no problem and felt safe doing it, all while getting better mileage than my Eco guzzler.

But this combo wouldn't ride over 70. The truck was all over the road and didn't feel safe. I'm not sure it would have maintained 80 anyway without being in 4th gear. I chose to relax, not have to look for the law and set my cruise at 60.

Bottom line is that F150's are little toy trucks, great for daily driving, getting groceries, taking the kids to school, towing a ski boat and hauling a dirt bike or two, maybe a utility trailer or ultra light camper/toy hauler.

Max tow package or not, I think a 10k trailer is a bit much for a 1/2-ton. I guess I just expected it to be more like a HD truck with the tow rating.

Interesting results. I towed my tractor back from Tennessee which tractor and trailer weighed 10,300lbs and managed 12.7mpg over the trip averaging about 75mph on the interstate. The 4.10's do not help me unloaded but towing with them is a dream.

I love my truck more than any truck I've had, I had a 05 dodge diesel and a 08 chevy duramax but when you try to compare a 1/2 ton to a 3/4 ton thinking its going to be relatively close you're going to be disappointed. The frame, brakes, cooling and suspension just ain't built to have a significant load behind it for significant amounts of time or miles .. I don't tow more than 7 or 8 times a year and when I do its a 20' enclosed car trailer with two sxs's at the most and my truck handles it fine but I definitely wouldn't want to go any bigger on a long road trip .. If you tow 8k+ regular, you need a super duty but if you're the guy like me who tows less than 8k and use their truck for daily errands then the ecoboost is for, I honestly dont think there's a better truck on the road to fit my needs than the screw eco fx4 platform, its perfect for me.

Have you towed with your truck stock? Do you really think installing a level and big tires didn't affect the way it tows a heavy load?

I have a 2011 F150 screw eb max tow stock tire size no suspension mods and a tt that is 34'long , loaded with our stuff for camping and supplies the tt is about 8500 lbs 900 lbs tongue weight. So far no mountains but lots of rolling hills and river valleys and wind . Get 11 to 12 usmpg and pulls the tt vary wall .Last year with the same tv & tt I was still working on getting my wdh set up right and had some swaying in crosswinds . Figured out setup on wdh and got LT tires on tv , towing was 100% better no sway and stress free towing. Just going by your pictures and assuming you have max tow it looks like you have to much tongue weight try balancing your weight better in the trailer more to the back of the trailer and try lowering your ball ( hard to give advice don't know what setup you have for wdh) . With a 1/2 ton getting your wdh setup properly is very important 3/4 & 1 tons are less sensitive
