why would anyone not get a ecoboost?

I don't get the whole truck has to have a V-8 either. While it does need to make torque, cat, cummins and a lot of diesels in "real" trucks are 6 cylinders. Straight Six that is. When I want that V-8 sound, I hop in my mustang.

Um you may want to hit up google sir both motors were released the same year so stop spreading info that is false. I reccomend educating yourself on a subject before making yourself look bad on the net.
Both motors have proven their reliability. 5.0 had major issues with cyl 8 going lean in the mustang and eco has condensation issues with some people in certain weather condtions.
5.0 is no more reliable and no more proven

Apples to oranges if the 'problem' was caused by the aftermarket in one case.

Wasn't the #8 cylinder issue caused by tunes that ignored the knock sensors or something? I dont recall hearing about the issue with the stock tune (does not mean they were not out there, just that all the issues I read about were tuned.)

I'll play, IF they WERE the same price I'd probibly have the Eco-boost but my 5.0L was 1795$ cheaper when I purchased mine. ALSO the week before I purchased my truck I was riding with in my Co-workers 11' Ecoboost Max tow Lariat, pulling a 6000# trailer, and experienced the "condensation" issue first hand as we pulled out of a side road onto the main highway with a semi coming up quick . Needless to say we had to pull over QUICK and the semi driver lets us know he was quite annoyed with a long toot of the horn and THANK GOD there was no oncoming traffic so the semi could get around because there was only 3 feet of shoulder. That right there turned me off the eco-boost in a hurry. As far as mileage, my 5.0L trades blows with for fuel sipping honers with my eco-boost buddies, there is NO DIFFERENCE unless you hypermile and stay out of the turbos 99% of the time. For what its worth my 5.0L is over powered, I can hook up a 7500# trailer which is close to my max rating and it will climb any hill in my area @ 60mph which is damn good, sure it needs to drop to 4th and rev to 4000rpm but who cares as it does the job quite well. The same can't be said of my previous 4.6L 2v, My F250 460ci, or my old 7.3 IDI with a turbo kit in which all of those would slow up on some of the hills around here. I half ton really shouldn't be able to pull like this and I believe out class the chassis they are put in.

I keep reading about these supposed "safety issues". For crissake, why on earth would you pull out into a road if an 18 wheeler was coming up quickly and you're towing 6000 lb??? Not smart! And since when did engine power become a safety system?

I wish you ecoboost guys wouldn't dominate this thread so much. It's hard to figure out what people's reasons for not buying are. I'm surprised the mod's haven't given some warnings out or something.
From what I've seen in the engine section:
Say something bad about an ecoboost and you are a troll
Say something good about any other engine and you are "misinformed"
Just so we're clear...a troll is someone who jumps into a thread that doesn't apply to them and stirs the pot just for the hell of it

This thread is just a troll bait imo. It always ends the same way with a few people circle jerking around their preference of motor.
I can't speak for every 5.0 owner but in a nutshell for the most part the main reasons people went with the 5.0 and didn't go with EB are:
I can't speak for every 5.0 owner but in a nutshell for the most part the main reasons people went with the 5.0 and didn't go with EB are:
- Low confidence level of the EB engine condensation issue being resolved with the 2011 & 2012 model year. (I'm not going to chance getting a POS lemon in early 2013 if the issue was still present/unresolved) It appears on the outside to be better after builds beyond April 2013.
- The 5.0 is cheaper including rebates and some owners don't require the towing uberness the EB can deliver.

Azuri, it usually turns into a circle jerk when someone starts spreading around false information. I chose the eb but your points are completely valid. Heck, throw in that the 5.0 sounds better and I won't argue with that either. But when people start saying the 5.0 is more proven because they've been making it for decades, the 5.0 gets better fuel mileage, the 5.0 has a flawless reliability record, or some other nonsense, some of us can't help but try and stop the spread of false info.
