Default Why is my oil burning?

Hi guys -

My 2011 5.0 with 138,000 miles on it has been rock solid, but ever since last fall when I made a marathon drive to Illinois and back it has been using a quart per 1000 miles.

About a month ago, I got code P2629, and it told me to change the first O2 sensor on bank two, so I changed both of them.

Then yesterday it threw the same code again, and I checked the oil, down 2 1/2 quarts over 2500 miles.

could it be something simple, like a PCV valve, or do I break out the compression tester and start diagnosing?

Please let us know what you find. Do you use any fuel or oil additives? What is the compression cylinder by cylinder after you do that test? Do you think the oil rings may have stuck? How often do you change the engine oil?

I have had company today, so I won’t get to it until next weekend, but it’s been changed every 5000 miles with 5W20 full synthetic.

Id do a compression and leakdown test. Only reason for that kind of oil consumption is blow by in my opinion. Is the engine quiet?

What brand of oil have you been using? Did you recently switch to a different brand of oil? Believe it or not I've owned vehicles that burned a quart every 1000 miles running one oil that didn't burn a noticeable amount over 7000 miles running a different oil.

not leaking past oil filter? I have seen others having the rubber gasket stick to the engine when removing a filter, and install a new one right over top without noticing.

front or real seal could leak too. Some claim a badly restricted air filter can increase oil consumption as well, but not sure if I agree.

I looked at it for a few minutes - bone dry, not a leak anywhere.

I've been using Mobil 1 5W20 full synthetic lately, and it's due for an oil change again right now.

No oil in the air filter, and I'll check the PCV valve tonight, see if it's visibly oily.

This
One quart every 1K miles just seems too much to leak by the valves. check that the PCV system isn't blocked anywhere
interested to find out what the issue is as I also have a 5.0
I change mine every 3K miles with 10w30 dino oil
