Main reason I switched from my previous 5.3. The better V8 options would reduce the problem but still not eliminate it.

Still comes down to the characteristics you prefer.

Happy with my 5.0; probably would have been just as happy with the ECO if I had gotten one of the good ones. Just didn't want to take the chance and rarely tow over 4500lbs which the 5.0 handles so much better than my GMC 5.3 did.

Forget about the 5.0 or Eco you would have been better with the 3.7 V6 from ford if you are comparing it to the Chevy 5.3!!

Love my Ecoboost, it pulls my 8,500lbs boat up the boat ramp without ever going over 1,100rpm. My Nissan Titan would pull it out but had to hit 3,500rpm to get it moving up the ramp. The Ecoboost truly is a pulling engine. With that said if I didn't have that boat I would have gone with the 5.0 I love the sound of that engine.

The EB in my 2012 FX4 has been flawless, performed great and gives back great mileage numbers. I have towed/hauled with it many times, run it hard and babied it. It's seen a ton of highway miles on my daily commute, and a good mix in the city. It's just great all around! lifetime mileage is right at 17.5 over all my driving scenarios. Truck has 10k miles put on it since delivery in may.

I could have written this post. Same truck, same numbers, same experience.

Exactly why I ordered my '13 FX4 Screw with the 5.0L. I just didn't want to take the chance. I also ordered the 3.73 gear ratio.

I've had good luck with both engines. Both new though. My cousins a mechanic at ford and he says the ecoboost problems are far and few around here.
