The 2009 5.4L Lariat I traded in had 204,161 miles on it at the time - and this raggedy E-boost has already been in the shop 2 more times that the 09 was the entire time I had it. My trucks are my office as I am a crop consultant for farmers down in the MS Delta, i average around 200 miles a day 6 days a week during March to October. I always run my trucks 3 years then trade at end of 3rd b/c the way I got my tax right off stuff set up. And they always have around 190 - 210k miles on them at time of trade. This e-boost is barely a year old, but I am going to give it one more chance. I hate swapping trucks in the middle of growing season, but it this truck can't make it through the summer w/o breaking down another time, i'm going to get a 6.2. Glad some of you have had great luck, however I wouldnt sell this truck to my worst enemy.
Sorry for your troubles, but I don't know why you'd get the 6.2 in the XLT over that distance. Including the upfront charge you're looking at about $20k over the life of the truck just to have the 6.2. I hope it's reliable.

anything mass produced can have problems. My ecoboost has nearly 80k miles with no issues. I hope it gets dialed in this time.

Five of the trips up there were for the "WRENCH" light coming on at random times throwing the truck into limp-mode. Actually, thats why it's up there right now. They don't have any idea why it's doing it, sometimes it will come on 2-3 times a day, sometimes I can drive it a week and it won't ever come on - however it has been doing it since a little over 24k miles. I dont have the file in front of me but if I believe they have replaced "turbo sensors/bank A" either 3 or 4 times - and they also cannot tell me "why" I have to keep replacing them. Another time was "Barometric Sensor", at around 43k miles the drivers side turbo started "roaring" (sounded like a wheel bearing going out) and the turbo finally failed at 51k after Ford said "It is just characteristics of the truck". Not motor related but the rear pinion bearing went out around the time of turbo fail, and then the right "carrier bearing" in rear diff went bad at 61k. Another unexplained event was between 12k - 20k miles when the truck was dumping about a quart of gas into the motor oil between oil changes (changed every 4k miles, Motorcraft 5W30), to this day nobody has figured that out. The truck has also had the dreaded "Eco-boost shudder" since it had around 4k miles on it. I've got 3 farmers I deal with that didnt keep theirs 12 months before they traded them back in for the 5.0 (one of them went w/ the 6.2L). I'll tell you what got me - those Ford "Ecoboost Torture Tests". The way they promoted it just seemed like it was bulletproof. I've always been a Ford person, and will continue to be, I also think this motor "could" be good if they get all the kinks worked out. Heck all you have to do is search the web for about 3 seconds, and it seems most people are all having the same "problems", myself included. Bottom line is reliability trumps over everything: when this truck is down, I can't do my job, and that job is what provides food on the table for my family & clothes on their back.

TurboSalsa-

The reason I went w/ the XLT this time was the way I could order the truck. Up until my 09', all of my 150's have been Lariat's - the only real reason I would get a Lariat was simply for the leather interior, as it can be cleaned up easily and doesn't absorb the "sweat" smell (I get in & out of the truck avg of 40 - 50 times a day and will be soaking wet from scouting fields). Over the years, however, they started putting more stuff than I actually need in the Lariat package (heated seats, center console shift, navigation, etc.). Don't get me wrong, all that stuff is nice, but I have found that most of it doesn't work after 200k miles of gravel & turn roads. So when it was time to trade this go around I started throwing ideas around: I knew I wanted basic power options like windows, locks, mirrors, also wanted sync, full bench front seat w/ fold up console & drivers power seat, drivers door handle keypad, and reverse camera. All that came w/ the Lariat, but it had bucket seats, and that full console, plus I wasn't crazy about that wood on the interior panels. I could order a XLT, and "add on" the reverse cam, door keypad, and would have my full bench seat up front w/ power driver & fold up console, but no leather interior. The dealership said they could have a leather kit put in the truck once delivered for another $1000, so after looking at a truck already done w/ the leather kit, I went with it. So I ended up getting the truck exactly like I wanted it and w/o all the stuff I didn't want or need. As far as the 6.2L cost of ownership, you have to realize this is a company vehicle, and I right off practically all oil changes, tires, and gas that run through it, including the extra cost of the 6.2L itself. I haven't taken the 5.0 out of the equation entirely - as it has proven to be a good motor. But I want s/t that has the torque of the ecoboost, because aside from all the trouble i've had w/ mine, I will say that it was pulling monster when it ran right haha.

Well, ctn, you've got o let us know what you get, especially if you get the 5.0, because that's what I'm leaning to for my next truck. Where are you in delta? Greenville area?

I watched those Ecoboost torture test videos too and it almost convinced me to get that engine, but those videos seemed so well made with Mike Rowe and all...it would be terribly inconvenient if something actually had to be replaced on that motor. Who would ever know?

TurboSalsa, Lariates can be had with a leather bench seat and column shifter. Most are ordered onto dealer lots with the buckets and console. I prefer the column shifter and bench seat in a truck too. Personal preference. I wish you could get the high trim packages in a regular cab configuration. A regular cab short box Lariate would be a nice rig.

This is good to read... I will be running 1500-2000km per week in my EB. I've had it for 2 weeks now and am at 4600km.

Looking forward to rolling on the miles on this mill!
