Default Whats the best octane forthe the Ecoboost

I've have been using Shell 87 octane in my 2011 ecoboost since day one. I now have 7000 miles on my truck and have read a few threads where people are using higher octane/premium fuel. Has anyone noticed a difference in performance or mileage using a higher octane/premium fuel? Is it worth the extra $$$

I haven't noticed any mileage improvements running higher grades. I do notice the truck is more responsive, smoother on 89 and 91. Less soot at the tailpipe as well.
I will generally run 89 and if the 91 comes down in price, I will fill with it occasionally.

I started running 93 and I've noticed a 1-2 mpg difference. I didn't expect a difference but it deff helped out. Truck seems more responsive and runs smoother as well. I have also noticed its very picky about having quality gas in it to. There's a big difference in filling up at like a Shell, BP, Exxon etc compared to a mom and pop station with a gas company not nationally known. I've noticed a 4 mpg difference sometimes! Idk why it's like that but I hand calculate mileage all the time and it's true.

I'll go ahead and call BS on mileage increase from octane increase. I have used 93 octane since my first fill up and I have 11,500 on the odo now. The only difference in mileage I have seen was with non ethanol fuel. My tanks have been between 16.5 and 18.1, 18.1 being with non ethanol. I have no idea if my truck has more power or responsiveness because 93oct is all i've used. It's driving habits or highway/city % that are giving you the 1-4mpg increase.

It was a 1-2 mpg difference and I'm not worried about you believing me or not as I have over double the miles you have on your truck so I think after 30k I can find the repeating pattern of a 1-2 mpg difference. It's not always as high as 2 but it has been in the past. And I'm sure that had other things to do with it like winds or road conditions etc but it's still always better compared to running 87.

There isn't a difference in energy content between different octanes. No energy difference means no mileage difference. There IS a difference between Gasahol and pure gas. If you want an extra 1 mpg, use pure gas.

Stick with Shell 87. No mileage difference between octanes...not even when towing.

And for once it wasn't me LOL!! I would think that a supposed 1-4 mpg difference would be negated rather quickly by the extra cost on each fill up?
