It says in the owners manual to take it off if you are going off roading. Not sure if you need it, I guess if there are situation where you should take it off, then I can't see how it would be required.

My only concern with removing it is that there are 2 metal lines that run to the transmission I think and they hang kind of low in an area that the cover sort of protects, or at least deflects things away from. I'd hate to snag one of those lines on a tree root or loose rock and bend or break em.

Its a tough call.

I took the fiber one and the metal one directly under the engine off.

Mine disappeared one day...have no idea when or where. Just realized about 2 weeks ago it wasn't on there anymore haha. Hopefully it didn't hit another car on the freeway

Found mine hanging the other day. Jiffy Lube monkeys aren't very careful with this. This is the second time. First time I'm in 10" of sloppy snow, out of town and dressed for work. Just perfect. The local dealer didn't stock replacement screws and were way more expensive than my wildest dream. Around $8ea

Just have to check the work from now on or go back to changing my own oil.
