Default What is this skid thing for?

It's not a skid plate cause it's made of cloth and adhesive backed aluminum foil, it's held on with quarter turn screws and it falls off at the worst times, like yesterday in the mud. So what is this thing under the truck behind the engine? Do I really need it? If so who makes one that will stay on?

I guess it's there to protect something on the underside of the engine. I know mine fell down one time too, kind a cheaply made that's for sure.

So now that I know what it is, do I need it?

Driving across a muddy field it got ripped off the front 2 screws and the driver side rear holder popped out of the frame attachment and the passenger side frame attachment point is bent to hell from it being the only screw that didn't fail.

a new part is $150ish, but do I really need it?

Took mine off at the first oil change. A little more turbo noise is the only noticeable difference.

That's probably what it's there for as well as noise muffling as the HPFP is quite noisy, It's to keep fires from starting should you park on dry grass or other flammable surface. I'd say its up to you if you need it or not.
