Default Shifts to 6th at 68.....always

How did you guys fix this issue? I got my "bug" if you will from the Superchips tuner when they gave us (who had it at that time) a bad strategy from Ford. I know some Ford trucks came with it from the factory......how did Ford fix this? I have been to the dealer several times and they say they are flashing the PCM but I don't think they are.

1st time they just reset the "learning module" and said it was fixed......well it wasn't. So I went back and spoke to the service writer and took him for a ride, he agreed it wasn't fixed.

2nd time was today when I had the new CAC and shield installed on my truck, was told it would come with a reflash but when I picked the truck up it didn't have the indicators that it was reflashed (ex. rear view camera settings were still all set, gear indicator was still up, and menu control was on memory where I had left it).

They were closing when I picked it up so when I called back they were already closed. Plan on calling them tomorrow to complain again. This is twice they did this to me, which sucks, because they are close to my house and they have been great in the fact that they give me a rental/loaner every time. I know not all dealers do this..............................RANT OFF

So back to my original question how did you guys with this problem get this resolved, was it a simple re-flash? Do I need to request something specific?

It runs fine with the 5* (though my transmission squeals into 4th sometimes with the 93 tune but not the 87 and 5* didn't have to much input when I wrote them, literally replied with two words, pretty disappointing) but I do plan on selling this truck some day and would like to be able to return it to stock if the future owner doesn't want to tune it.

Thanks,
Greg

Only into 4th at 3/4ish throttle, light and WOT doesn't do it. Sounds like squealing clutches in a transmission. Could be the bypass on the Turbo but a sound that I haven't heard before and others say it sounds like the transmission.

Can't imagine that would be a good thing.

And I'm fairly certain that ford didn't reflash my computer either after the new intercooler and cats because my strategy was the same and everything else was the same but oh well. I'm tuning it anyways so I don't care.

Dealer says shifting into the 6th at 68 is completely normal and another truck on the lot does the same.......are the new trucks doing this?

Mine will go into sixth as early as 50mph if I'm light on the throttle. 2011, 3:55 ring and pinion.

Of course, harder you accelerate, longer it will take to get into sixth.

How hard are you accelerating? Stock tire size I assume?

We have the same truck, except I have the 6.5 ft box. It should shift into 6th at about 40 mph, I believe they all do. By that I mean if you are cruising on level ground at 40 mph, it should be in 6th gear.

The shift strategy of mine will only upshift at 65ish at lite load. The truck is stock everything with 4.10 gearing. It doesnt bother me but could be effecting fuel economy under 65. I plan on finding a dealer I trust to reflash to a revised calibration to address the shifting issue/(s) before it gets a tuner.

It doesn't matter how light I accelerate, hell, I could be coasting at 67mph and it WILL NOT shift into 6th gear. It isn't until 68mph. They dealer verified that the truck is commanding 68mph, just like others have said in the past. But they are saying that this is normal when clearly it is not. I am on the phone right now with Ford Customer Service putting in my concern/complaint. The dealer has been great to work with, I just don't think the answer they are giving me is right.

It will be interesting to see if new PCM updates and trucks ALL have this. They claim one they tested on the lot (2013) does this same thing. Is this possibly Ford fix to eliminate the "condensation in the inter cooler"? Keep the air velocity up during cruising conditions by commanding a lower gear at lower speeds? If this is the case, this will definitely effect MPG, to what extent, not sure but it will however effect it. If you live around all 55mph roads, your truck will NEVER see 6th gear, so essentially it is a 5 speed LOL

That certainly isn't normal. As stated above, sixth at 40 mph when light on the throttle.
