Default What build dates were affected by bad oblong cylinders on the 5.0

Have a 2012 F150 4x4 5.0. With a 7/12 build date
Trying to figure out what's causing the loud tick tap when cold

I read about the bad batch of blocks that had cylinders in #3 or #4
Was it ever determined by Vin# or build dates just what trucks it pertained to??

Has anyone figured this out yet or heard from Ford on the years affected?

Im curious to as mine is a early 12' model and I think i hear a eve so faint knock. The tick noise i believe is normal as it is coming from the electronic part mounted above the Throttle Body with a hose with clip connected to it coming from underneath truck. You can put your hand on it and feel it ticking like crazy.

I have a 2011, had bad #4 & #5, Ford replaced with a short block, all good now. I think it was 11 & beginning of 12's.
BTW, my dealer said my truck was the first one they did with the short block.

What is your F-150's build date? HINT: It's on the door jam sticker.

Great topic for a poll?
Just a thought...This could narrow it down to specific early years, mid years, late years, and those with no tapping/knocking.

I'm not forum literate to do this though!

I agree, I would love to see a poll.
My build date is 07/12

I heard the same thing that It was the 11's and early 12"s but I am seeing posts in forums and youtube videos from people with 13"s and 14's, also Mustangs with 5.0's extending into later yrs too.

Here is my feeling.
There seems to be 3 noises going on in these 5.0's.
1. A tick most commonly heard from the passenger side wheel well. ( I Have This 24/7)

2. A knock or harder tap sound when warm ( I have this but it is intermittent) I think Ive noticed it only hot days.

3. A metalic tapping ticking that is different from #1 that happens right after oil changes (at dealership)regardless of type of oil full syn or MC Syn Blend, for the first couple hundred miles. ( Mine does this but only a few times intermittently, but loud.

I have 25K miles now and 600 miles on the present MC oil. last oil change they couldnt hear anything so I took it home , went for a 20 mile drive and pulled into a store put it in park and it sounded like someone was in there tapping to an irregular beat with a hammer , loud too, drove about 2 miles and it was gone. I told the dealer next oil change they have to keep it for a couple days and the senior tech will drive it as his personal vehicle until he hears #1 and #3.
#2 noise will probably have to wait until its a constant or hot weather.

I would like to think these things are something limited to early production yrs and have been fixed or figured out but I doubt it. Maybe the cylinder distortion issue has been taken care of in the newer engines but part of me tend's to think that there is something else causing the cylinder distortion then defective builds. (Heat)

Some interesting Information in this thread if you filter through it. start at page 1 though.

I read the 5.0 Coyote doesnt have steel cylinder sleeves but plasma coated, durability and precision is a question for me ,
read here :

Id love to see it get figured out

From that, it sounds like my truck before the new short block.
