Default Well its my turn...

My truck will be going in for the cam phaser TSB 15-0131. I talked to the dealership today and the service manager was not aware of any ecoboost timing chain / cam phaser issues, which surprised me. I showed him the TSB and he said he would look it over and talk to ford about it.

I got a phone call about 10 mins ago and they said they would do the tsb. They are ordering the parts and I will call them back and schedule an appointment.

This will be great to be done.

Good luck. Is this warranty work for you? If not I'm curious how much dealers are charging for this.

Yes its warranty. It calls for 9ish hours so I am guessing it's expensive.

At least yours is covered. I did mine myself 2 weeks ago (100k miles).

Dealers quoted 3500-4200 out of warranty. It's about $1000 in parts alone.

How they get it done in 9 hours boggles my mind. Took two of us (both engineers) 19 hours total to do mine. I could do it again in 12 with help again. No way I could do it myself in 9 hours.

Ill be happy to have it done under warranty so it doesn't pop up later down the road. I'm not sure how long I will keep the truck but at least I don't have to worry about it anymore.

Good to hear they're taking care of it. Sounds like my dealership, typical dealership, playing dumb.

Well I dropped off the truck this morning. I will have it back in a couple of days. I talked to the service advisor and she said they had done quite a few of these, which confused me as the other guy had never heard of it. Then she mentioned the 5.4l and I think she was confused thinking it was a 5.4l. I also asked her if there was an approved method to clean the intake valves and she mentioned a new method where they use chemicals to melt the junk off of them. Its not a warranty repair but a maintenance charge. 260$?

Last thing she mentioned was something they do on the 5.4's. They put a detergent additive in the oil and run the vehicle for a while. It cleans the crud out then they flush out the detergent and change the oil like normal. She recommended it for the eco, anyone done this? I know its not a new method, just curious if anyone here has done it.

Hopefully this will make my truck solid for a long time.

I looked at my valves when I did my timing chain and they were very clean. Seems the 3.5 doesn't have coking issues like some earlier DI engines did.

I would not add any oil detergents. It's not really needed IMO.

I think some of the valve coking is blown out of proportion on the internet, but I think it still happens on the DI motors. It was enough of an issue the the new EB's have a pre intake injector to help keep them clean.
