STD correction factor is more forgiving than SAE and will show higher numbers. Ford (and all manufacturers) rate in SAE so that's what has to be used. If those numbers were shown SAE they would have been lower.

The STD numbers are usually 2.6 -3.0% higher depending on test conditions. Your truck SAE would have been 315/379 or so. Not a huge difference.

It is when testing bolt on parts, some aftermarket companies use that correction factor to show higher numbers but STD numbers are absolutely meaningless, no auto manufacturer uses them to rate their vehicles. You can use it as a comparison for future changes but why bother?

When aftermarket manufacturer's test base and aftermarket parts performance the dyno runs are tested on the same dyno with the same correction factor. If they choose to use STD instead of SAE the difference is still only 2.5-3.0%. On a typical CAI, this may be 3% of the 15HP gain or less than .5 hp. There is nothing wrong with STD...in some instances depending on weather conditions it can often be the lower of the number. SAE is the "engineers" number so the engineers use it.

Just remember everyone if you get any dyno tuning/testing done demand SAE numbers on your graph, that will allow you to compare to what Ford (SAE) tested the stock motor with.

Not trying to be on the negative nancy bandwagon, but it's true, if you test at thanksgiving again with STD, the gains won't be accurate. Are you hoping to do a back-to back stock vs. Injen intake run on your next trip? If you did, than regardless of STD/SAE, it will clearly show the difference. AND it would be awesome.

motor trend test got 316 rwhp and 347 rwtorque. if i remember correctly they ran the tests in 2nd gear? may account for a difference, but all in all pretty close to the #'s produced here.

Hey fellas,

Here are my pulls from the other day. This was after stop-go traffic for 30 minutes so she was hot. The first pull is the ~357RWHP/477RWTQ. After that, each pull dropped off more and more - she was getting heat soaked. I am going to go back for another time slot where I can let her cool down before doing the runs.

Airaid Intake
4" Cat-Back AFE Exhasust

Oh, and run in 3rd gear...
