Vacuum/Boost Gauge Mounting Locations

I tried the gps dongle and just don't care for it. The needle is too coarse and the screen has too low of a resolution for the unit too be a good gauge. If somebody wants to buy the dongle off me, it's available.

I imagine this is the reason the Android phone gauges are so popular, as the screen is crystal clear - too bad I could never be bothered to link up my phone everytime I get in the truck.

I also have been looking for the right solution for a boost gauge...
While I love the idea of using my iPad (already mounted) as an auxiliary gauge cluster, the solutions just aren't fully developed in my opinion. Even if you are willing to buy a Wifi OBDII adapter (kiwi wifi for example) and an ipad/iphone app (Rev, dash command for example) there are still quite a few issues...
Running android/bluetooth is lower cost, but I believe it has all the data bandwidth response issues.
So I think I've resigned myself to putting in a stepper-motor/sensor type boost gauge, probably with the Roush vent pod. If somebody comes out with a better pod, wouldn't mind at all moving it to the pillar. I tried to "mold" my own pillar mount from a generic one with a heat gun, and while it fits semi-decently, not happy with using it as my solution.

- Connecting to the wifi ad-hoc network is manual, unconnecting is manual.
- No connection to 3G network or internet-connected wifi while the ad-hoc network is running. This means no google maps, real time traffic, Pandora, etc.
- Poor data resolution from OBDII port, even worse if you monitor multiple data PIDs simultaneously. Lots of reports of "laggy" display of data.
- Limited generic OBDII PID's to monitor. Yes, you can get the generic MAP data, no you can not get the Boost data Ford provides in their OEM OBDII data stream.
- Applications seem buggy, support seems poor. Software vendor blames hardware, hardware vendor blames application, etc.

What is piece of hardware is that?
I have thinking about mounting my 7" Galaxy Tab and using a Bluetooth dongle for the guages, but I am waiting to see if Rockford Fosgate will have Android control capability with the 3Sixty.3 coming out next year. That way I can integrate the guages and stereo control through one unit.

Has anyone seen a gauge mounted here? Would it be hard/possible to wire from there?

I personally don't use that space and wouldn't mind seeing it mounted there.

It's for the previous generation F150, but I'd definitely consider a version designed for our trucks. Wonder how hard it would be to modify this version to fit; might be worth $27 to give it a try.
Very easy to wire to that location... open space below, easy to wire up to fusebox from there. And that space is pretty useless. Anything you put up there will go flying on your first sharp turn.

I was originally wanting to mount the gauge where my change/coin holder is placed on my 2WD Ecoboost. Only problem is when the boost gauge is actually in use, the gear shifter is right in front of it. I want it to be more visible without drilling or having a gauge mounted on top of the dash. This gives a closed clean look in my opinion.
What other gauges are people putting on their Ecoboost that are useful other than boost/vacuum?

If you were using a tuner on your EcoBoost (yes, I know there aren't any right now), a wide-band O2 sensor would also be nice, but I'll likely never put a tuner on, and if I did, I wouldn't be tuning it anywhere close to the performance edge where an O2 meter starts to be useful...
