Turbo's on a 5.0 ????

There was a guy at our local dyno shop last fall with a twin turbo setup on a brand spanking new Coyote engine. Everything was showroom stock, except the twin turbo kit that he'd bolted on. I hung out for a little while, and when I left the tuner had gotten it to 950 at the rear wheels safely. The owner said he wanted to hit 1,000 so they were going to try and push it on up a little bit. I left and didn't get to see the results.
But, at 950 RWHP there isn't an EcoBoost anywhere in this state that could lace that Coyote's boots. My guess is that his major problem now will be keep the tires from going up in smoke. If he can make it hook without shattering the driveline, it's lights out for whoever is in the other lane.

I can't imagine 1000hp on any stock coyote being "safe" that's over three times the stock horse power they put to the ground and almost double what the transmission is rated for. Not saying it didn't happen I just don't think it would live very long at that power level and possibly not even one pass. I wonder what fuel he was using? Probaly not pump gas.
With all the 2.3 TVS, 2.8 KB, and 2.9 whipple guys really pushing these motors it seems like 600 whp is about the top of the "safe" limit. And that's really open to debate.

All that stuff up there in the way of the oil dipstick just seems too cumbersome, where a Whipple or Roush system seems to be a good fit for it.

An engine runs real fine with strait pipes and ported heads. The back pressure myth is the mufflers. If you don't have them UR in trouble so run the least back pressure/legal ones you can find. Just look to dragsters, they have shorty pipes and heads that flow huge volumes of air. That is where the new after 15, 5L head comes in to play with bigger valves higher lift cams, it is tremendous and its mid lock valve timing phasers do the rest.
