Default Trouble deciding which engine

Hi, I know there are about a million 5.0 vs ecoboost threads out there but none of them really answer my questions. I will be buying an FX4 around February and want to make the right purchase. Before you tell me to go drive both and go with what I like better, let me say I have already done this. I would prefer the ecoboost, but the 5.0 has PLENTY of power for me, and i love the way it sounds. My truck will be leveled with either 33's or 34's. I have read the ecoboost is more sensitive when adding bigger tires. So does that put the MPG's pretty even when considering larger tires? MPG's are obviously not my main concern since i'm purchasing a 4 door 4X4 truck, but it is something that helps me decide on the two. Thank you for your time.

In your case it sounds like you would be happy with either one. I personally chose the 5.0 over the EB, but I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

In your case, I would go with the one I could get the best deal on.

If the 5.0 does the job in the power department for you save the money from not doing the upgrade to the ecoboost.

The ecoboost in only sensitive to gas mileage because there is more power available and people use it. Put a trailer on it, it will pull it faster, put bigger tires on it, it will accelerate faster.

As been said either would do the job for you. I'd be more concerned with gear ratio for the bigger tires. I'd guess 3.55 at the least.

Does the Eco benefit you enough for the $2,000ish extra? If not, go 5.0. Plenty of power and the MPG difference is not enough to justify one over the other assuming initial cost.

The eco really does pull, though. The low RPM torque is noticeable, for sure.

ECO is a 750$ option, if a dealer says its more they are lying.. that being said it sounds like you could go either way, if your getting the FX4 then you will probably get the 3.73 gear which is a good set of gear, just depends if you want V8 rumble or Turbo spool as your new sound

Eco is a $1200 option on Fords site ($895 from the 5.0). Unless you build the truck, just picking an ecoboost off the lot is going to cost more than that generally. At the three dealers I went to (three different cities) they only had one ecoboost in the configuration i was set on and it was $1500 more sticker wise. The trucks with ecoboost engines seem to generally be built with more options
