Default Torque Converter?

221,000 miles, think I may be starting to experience some transmission issues, wanted to get your guys opinion if it it sounds transmission related or not.

Beginning of the summer, I thought I was experiencing misfires, so I did plugs as they were overdue. Issue was still there so I checked plugs again and thought one looked like it had a hairline crack...so replaced that plug. Still felt like a misfire.

Fast forward a couple months, and one night I went to accelerate around a car and I heard a terrible sound when it kicked down...like a loud electronic warning sound like when you are listening to the radio and a tornado warning gets issued. Really strange sound, first time it happened didn't even think it was my truck. But it happened again last week confirming it was in fact my truck. This sound occurs when it drops from 6th to 5th to accelerate and the rpm's are fluctuating. Only heard it twice so far.

In addition to that, what I'm noticing is if I'm cruising along say at 50 mph in 6th gear, and I give it enough gas so it downshifts to 5th...it feels exactly like a misfire and what I'm noticing is the rpm's are jumping up and down.

Also, crusing along and going up a hill in 6th gear...I'll get these same rpm fluctuations. Like the converter is trying to stay locked but it can't and the rpm's jump up.

Accelerating from a stop is completely fine. I'm just wondering if since it's happening in higher gears if that maybe sounds like a torque converter issue to anyone?

We have a few of these f150's at work and tranny's usually go around 250,000, so I have kinda been expecting an issue to pop up at some point.

I did check though and no codes at all

No idea on your problem but did you ever get your timing chain fixed? I remember you saying it had rattled for a while with no issues.

Naw been rattling for 140k now. It actually didn't rattlle much last summer with my catch can...but it seems my catch can isn't working properly anymore it's not drawing as much stuff out. My truck really has issues yet zero codes ever thrown. I'm just driving til it blows not worth throwing a bunch of money at a truck getting rusty with 220,000 miles on it. Just hope for the best

Have you ever changed the fluid? Did you check the fluid level? Bulkhead connector ever been replaced or leaking?

You can always try throwing in the XL-16 ford additive. I had a "Squak" when shifting from 3-4 and 5-3 under load and that resolved it.
With a truck like yours with that kinda mileage on it, I'm not sure if it's worth it to do major repairs, but it's your truck.
I'll have a stock converter in a few weeks that you can have for the cost of shipping. I'm doing a Circle D upgraded TC.

Make sure the fluid level is where it needs to be. If you have an OBDII connector, you could use ForScan and check the converter slip.

If your converter is slipping, adding the XL-16 additive would possibly make the slip worse.
