Hardly a troll attempt. You must be new 'round here?

You have too much to learn.

Do you have a lead foot?

Do you tow?

Every time you said yes, punch yourself in the ***** because that's why your mileage is the way it is.

Its a god damned 5000# TRUCK.

You want better mpg, drive differently. Simple as that. The trucks differences will make some variables, but the single biggest factor is your own effing foot.

WORST CASE SCENARIO:
Crew cab, Lariat, long box, oversized tires, a lift, and a lead foot - you still get >13 mpg on the daily if you aren't towing.

If that isn't good enough for ya, you shouldn't have bought a truck.
If you would of read his post he said he was a senior and the truck was stock.

As I clearly stated, I have done no mods to this truck. It is a supercrew 5.5 bed 4x4 with a 3.55 rear. I do not tow. I have a soft tonneau cover and that is it. I do NOT have a lead foot, keep the tires properly inflated, and have changed the oil to full synthetic. I also resent your implying that I am not driving properly. I have a Class A CDL and have driven everything from tractor trailers to bulldozers and have done so for 50 years! I think I know what I'm doing. If guess I overestimated the purpose of this forum if folks like you can only suggest my mileage problem is my " own effing foot !" Ford made very appealing claims as to the mileage attainable with this Ecoboost drivetrain. From what I've read, I'm far from being the only one that is dissatisfied with the Ecoboost. I had hoped, by posting on this forum, that someone would have
" constructive " suggestions that I was not aware of. After all, that IS the purpose of this forum, is it not?

It is, and my post wasn't meant to troll or anything like that.

If youre seeing <16 mpg on a regular basis and there's no obvious reasons, I would consider having ford look at it.

If you tell them that your driving habits are easy on the throttle and you don't tow, there's no good reason for it to be below 16, and that's low for a daily driver. If I really baby it and don't set my cruise even with 3.73, crew cab, leveling kit and crap tires I can easily get 18.

If I REALLY go hard I can get 24, but 16 is my low-average, so that tells me that you shouldn't have any trouble getting 17+ without something being wrong.

Express your concerns with the dealer - ask them just to take a look because it doesn't seem right since its that poor. If they tell you that its in tip top shape and nothing seems to be out of whack, the only potential other thing I can think of is the fuel you use. I've had a lot of issues with 87 that has 10% ethanol. I go well out of my way to avoid ethanol blend fuel for this very reason, when I run non ethanol I get 4-5 more mpg than I do with the blend.

That's an idea, I don't know what you have around you or even if ethanol is used in your state, but its a thought.

Thank you for your suggestions. This is the type of reply I was expecting. Here in MA., I doubt anyone can even sell unleaded that is not at least 10% ethanol. I am aware of the shortcomings of ethanol and it's effect on vehicle mileage. I think I might also check my mileage manually and not rely on the trk computer. Seems some on this forum have noticed a discrepancy between the trip computer mileage and mileage manually computed. You can imagine my disappointment when I traveled to N.C. and had to fill up 3 times for a trip of less than 900 miles ( 36 gal. tank). While I do my own oil changes and minor maintence myself, perhaps you are correct in that I should contact my dealer and have the vehicle checked out.

Thanks again for your suggestions. As I said, I do like the truck and am pleased with everything except the mileage. Mine is green with the tan. I actually was hoping to buy the 5 liter V-8 in the King Ranch but none were available in my area. Perhaps I'll repost after I talk to the dealer, etc.

Does anyone actually log their own MPG instead of claiming what the computer says? My truck says 18MPG all the time but when I calculate how many miles I drove to the gallons I filled up I'm at a pretty steady 15.8-16.1 (17.9 once). If you reset your MPG and lets say half way through the tank you get a urge to lay into it, most likely the MPG isnt gonna recognize the dollar bills flying out you exhaust. My truck only has 3,300 miles so I of course still get on her a few times a tank. 16MPG is great for a truck with the size and power, 18MPG would be nice. Maybe after a tune I will better MPG, once I get over testing out the tune

I go by the trip odometer and when I fill up it is within a liter of it said I burnt so I'll take that. The instant screen has to be reset once in a while or before you go on a trip to be anywhere close to what your getting for milage.

Will disconnecting my battery after a full tank give me a better reading? my truck only has 33xx miles and it reads almost the same everytime (22gallons, 400 miles etc) but im putting in about 24 gallons. Idk if 3.31 gears and stock 20's kill my MPG but my instant is around 18mpg at 70mph and sometimes reads 20mpg at 80mph?. At pump im always at 16mpg. Friend has a 5.0 4x4 getting 19mpg (600+ miles with 36 gallon tank) I was in market for coyote but settled with ECO, which I do love. both motors are great in my opinion.

So far my trip meter has been very accurate.
