the old saying seems appropriate here , "Gotta pay to play" which is what is gonna happen once we (well not so much you guys i guess) start the modding

but its still gonna be some time before people start fully producing mods for the EB in the truck form

A WHOLE lot of guys did exactly that on the 6.0 Powerstroke. Stretched the head bolts, etc took off the tuner and had Ford pay for it. Ford and Navistar got into a fight over warranty issues- most caused by modifications and Ford ended up building their own diesel in Mexico.
Sure some of the early 6.0's had problems but most were due to mods.

because people like to scream 'magnusson-moss warranty act'. they like to think that a CAI cant void their powertrain warranty because it's just an intake, it couldnt have contributed to their blown rear end...and maybe the rear end was borderline to begin with but that little bit of power put it over the limit.

didnt someone also post that the dealer could no longer recalibrate the speedo for non-standard tire sizes? Probably another function of encryption. (BTW, bigger tires equals more stress on the driveline and steering components, they could easily justify voiding parts of your warranty). Anyway, no tire size calibration really stinks because here, if you change tire size on a vehicle with ABS, you MUST have the speedo recalibrated to pass inspection. (its better than it used to be though, until 3 years ago, you couldnt lift or change tire size at all if you had ABS).

anyway, people like to argue that their mod shoudlnt void the warranty but I guarantee the engineer who did the design can come up with half a dozen reasons why it, in fact, should.

The EcoBoost and the new diesel are the ones that Ford is really cracking down on modding. The 5.0 is a whole different ballgame. I asked our regional warranty rep about it and since I sometimes mod my vehicles,he told me to steer clear of the EcoBoost and stick with the 5.0 or 6.2 in the F150 if I planned on modding.

We had a guy come through service about 3 weeks ago with a 6.7 and it was tuned.....Warranty went bye-bye.

I will give it 2-3 years and the tuners will have a way around the ECU parameters and the encryption(s).

The f150 is the best selling vehicle on the planet! I wouldn't be a bit surprised if SCT will have tuners available before this fall.

And the warranty will be gone gone gone.

Read the first post of this thread, that is straight from Ford's own dealer network site.......if you don't care about your drivetrain warranty on your $30k+ vehicle go for it....

So now I am really second guessing myself. I have a 2011 5.0 as well as a SCT loaded with tunes from a reliable company which I have yet to install. My plan was to run an 87 performance/tow tune which has no advanced timing. It does change things to improve throttle response and tranny shifting characteristics. I'm not a huge tow/haul person, and I don't drag race, but I was looking for a better feel around town.

Now, I'm hesitating to even install the tune. I have an extended 75000 mile warranty, and I'm scared to lose that. djquick, you said they're primarily cracking down on the turbo motors? I'd just hate to get caught with my pants down on a warranty issue...then again, the tranny shifting is really getting annoying.

Thoughts?

alright, im asking this in an honest no flame warranted way guys..

is there a site for f150 modding enthusiasts that actually have information for those that want to mod their vehicles and not block the intercoolers and everything? bc i've been looking and haven't found one yet

like i said , this is a sincere question

I honestly think the best avenue is to ASK...although the answer might be a "no", it's much better than doing something you will regret.

I'm going with a 7/100k warranty on our new rig, and from all the information I have gleaned, my policy is going to be to ask before I do anything to the truck.
As I said in another post, I think that once a good number of these new truck are out on the road, we are going to see a lot of people on these forums complaining about how they "modded" something on their new trucks, it went bad, and the dealership voids their warranty.

The 6.0 just sucked!! Been there, done that! Never modded and seen headgaskets and injectors, all before 100k. I currently own the new 6.7 but ordered a ecoboost today to replace it. Terrible mpg, like a 6.4 on the hiway
