The hole should be very small (about 1 mm). You don't want a lot of air escaping. As the water collects in the lowest point in the bottom of the IC it will cover the small hole and the air pressure will blow it out (probably as a fine mist).

It is difficult to get to the proper location. Most people use a pin vise to snake up to the proper spot, but if you remove the air deflector you can probably get at it with a regular drill. Take you time as you are using a very fine bit you could break easily.

In addition to drilling the hole change and regap you plugs to .030.

Went back to a GMC Sierra, traded the Platinum. This was my first Ford after being a GM guy for many years. Which is too bad, because I did really like the F-150.

 

I was just in my friends new 2014 GMC Sierra.. Got to admit is was a nice truck and nice ride. His had a nice interior, CC, 6.5 bed with led lights(nice). A lot of neon on interior but seemed like GMC stepped up there game on the 14's.. Wish you better luck with this truck..We all want to drive our nice trucks without having to be driving to the dealer every other month...

 

And sadly, this is the most that many have to say about the new GM's. Gee, the sure ride nice . . . . .

 

Too bad they look like ***. If they did look better I'd be willing to switch. If mine develops the symptoms and they don't properly fix it I will be switching brands. I traded my 12 Mustang because I had too many quality issues with it and now this. It would be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

 

Ask yourself, if you did buy a Ram/Chevy/Tundra and loaded it up with options you wanted and it ran great for 100k+ with nothing but routine maintenance would that change you mind about owning a FORD truck?? There is only one way to find out..

 

Oh trust me I have but so far I love this truck. Of course it only has 3k miles. Sadly it wouldn't be a Ram or Chevy that I'd buy.

 

Is this a problem with all ecoboost engines or just the F150?

Also, would it be recommended that the hole be done even if there are no issues in order to prevent future issues?

Keeping the number of ecoboosts out there in mind, what's the percentage of complaints regarding the intercooler problem?

I ask these questions because when I had my 12 Mustang GT we had the #8 issue and the tranny issue. The #8 issue was blown out of proportion because of a handful of cars when you compare the amount of 5.0's out there. The forums IMO blew it up. There's only a very small percentage of people who actually report these problems on a forum.

 

Well it's been enough that Consumer Reports has dropped the Ecoboost off the recommended list for poor reliability. The 5.0 still makes the list.
Before everyone goes on a CR bashing all this indicates is that with identical trucks one motor has had more problems reported than the other.

 

So this is a good thing for EB? Did they upgrade for poor to fair? And your saying the 5.0 is still poor?
